Yea you don't need the key at all.
I tested it on one of our laptops here.
Did the upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro then grabbed a copy of the key with Produkey just in case.
Then I did a full fresh install, wiping the HDD in the process, and during the setup/installation it did prompt me to enter in a key but there is the option to Skip which I did. It prompted again during the first start wizard after the installation but again I just skipped it.
Once I was in Windows 10 again checked the System properties and it was activated. Checked with Produkey and it has the same key as before.

yes this is expected. We store your key away so you can reinstall like this seamlessly in the future :)

It's good that it does that, it must be phoning home to grab the product key based on the computers hardware codes that it got when the update was first done. It makes it a lot easier..

Navigate to the page (ie www.google.co.nz) that you want to use as default search engine, then get back to the setting as per your image above, and it'll appear right under the "Choose one" text.
If someone at MS thought that was simple, they're possibly correct - but if they thought it was "intuitive", then they're from another planet. Nathan did point it out correctly with his step #1 above, but I didn't "get it" either.

i have a strange problem. I have Wifi as my laptop and phones work but i cant find any evidence on my PC . Theres nothing under Network and internet settings or the Network and sharing centre. Any ideas where its vanished to or how to get it back.

weird, this is the same way Google Chrome works, too — visit a web page with OpenSearch and it’ll automatically be detected.

can you try google.co.nz instead of .com

Google.co.nz works, weird that Google.com doesn't. But you should still be able to enter it manually in a field.

Hmmm....
If I go to http://www.google.com/ncr

then in settings I get:

That was easy....
except that if I Add as default, or simply Add, google.com isn't saved by Edge.

Very weird.

Tried to upgrade to Windows 10 64 bit on an HP Pavilion dv6 laptop Intel I7 inside. It did the "Copying files" okay and "Installing features and drivers" okay then got to 93% complete on the final third stage where it was doing the final "Configuring settings" which were 75% complete and then it stayed this way for over an hour and a half.

With almost no disk activity I had to power it off. Instead of it retrying the "Configuring settings" again it restored Windows 7 Home Professional OS.

Is this because I selected the default (top option) of keeping my Windows 7 settings? I don't want to choose the option to keep Nothing as I don't want to lose all my directory files with Visual Basic and Delphi Applications etc which should work okay.

Anyone got any ideas?

thats the problem i cant find any drivers to do with a wireless device or anything to do with WIFI.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Will try the search change again when back home, thanks.

As for the WiFi check Device Manager for drivers, not where you are looking now.
