I think the settings have greatly improved in Win8 and Win10 over Windows 7.

Windows 8 and 10 now have settings where you might expect to find them under the right areas, topics or headings.

Windows 7 was a nightmare where if you knew the setting you wanted to change, you could not change it until you had played "Jeopardy" to come up with the question to which your setting was the answer.

The worst default was the maximizing of windows if you inadvertently dragged it too near the edge of the screen.

That's why making the last printer used the default is fine because they are used to using different corporate printers at different corporate locations. The printer they are most likely to use next is then the one that they last used. I bet most of them don't even have a printer that they own because it is easier to use the corporate systems.

Interestingly on the PC I'm using now, it always prints to the last printer used, and the PC is running Win7. So it seems there is not a lot new about that feature. Nice to see that Win10 gives the option of last printer or default. For my use (home office/personal) I print to 2 printers, 2 different pdf printers and Fineprint. When I'm printing say a dozen invoices to pdf, I pretty glad I don't have to reselect the printer everytime. Different horses, different courses.

On update I completely agree. This PC runs simulation which load the Xenon processor to 80% capacity, runs 24/7 and some of the simulations can take over 400 hours. The last thing I want is OS upgrades stuffing those up. The simulations need to be manually shutdown and then the updates applied. However doesn't Win10 allow this anyway? Both my 2 laptops run Win10, and I have them set to "Notify to schedule restart". As far as I'm aware they will not apply the updates unless I tell them to.

On Windows 7 (only recently upgraded to 10) my default printer wasn't changed to the last printer used. My default printer remained my default printer even when I printed to other printers. During the same session, the last printer used will be the printer used unless I change it. When I start a new session, the printer used will be the default printer. Whereas Windows 10 has changed the default printer to the last used printer so the last printer used is the the default for the current session and the any new session.

Windows 10 keeps prompting me to update. I don't want windows/dialogs that pop-up. On several occasions when Windows Update hasn't got a response (when computer is on but not being used) it has automatically restarted my computer. The same thing has happened when I am actively using an application. In the middle of typing, my computer has restarted. I did try options to prevent disruptive behaviour but I still got problems. I don't want to turn updates off so I'm stuck with less than desirable interruptions. It is possible that the most disruptive behaviour has stopped because I haven't noticed any problem since the at least the 1511 update but it might just be that I'm now using the Windows default.

I have found on build 1511 the right click (jump list) context menu delay on taskbar items is pretty bad.

My latest preview build is the best I have seen for a LONG time (Over a year) of Windows 10. Still not close to what I want, but at least the crazy annoying things are somewhat better.

I upgraded a Surface Pro 1 64 GB to W10.

Initially it slowed it down.  But I tuned off a bunch of cloud based features that run in the background - live tiles, peer to peer update, reporting back to Microsoft, getting to know you, background apps.

It now runs nicely as net book and media streamer, which is how I use it.

Lots and Lots of stuff, I've previously mentioned. I'll make a list at some stage.

Just installed the latest preview build on my work  Toshiba laptop.  A bit of a disaster.  After logon black screen with curser.  Wait as long as you like and it stays that way.   Try booting into safe mode same thing.  A Google search shows it as a fairly common thing.  Looks like a video driver issue..  Currently trying to roll back to the previous release.  Next step if that doesn't work  a OS reset..

You are putting preview OS on a production machine? that's brave

To be fair, in my experience "released" versions aren't much more stable. RTM W10 for example was the least stable OS I've experienced in 10 years at least.

The new upgrade went OK. Can't say i'm impressed with the prompt  to "Go back and save your work" when you try to shutdown or log off.   Also had UAC turn it's self on a couple of times after a reboot..
