Windows announced that our upgrade from Win 7 to 10 was ready and so away we went. Everything went smoothly up to about 45%, then the progress messages stopped and the hard drive went quiet.

Now I can't start Windows, since the faulty installation of 10 has sidelined Windows 7. The only advice I have had is to "login in as administrator from the Start button". But I haven't got a Start button because I haven't got a working copy of Windows. .

How can I recover Windows 7 when I haven't got a working operating system?

Grateful for any advice,
Mike

is this on a different PC than the one  you updated on August 2nd that made your speakers stop working, if so can you download the usb win10 copy on the working one and install from that onto this one that has not installed properly?

Restore from backup. You have a backup, right? Macrium Reflect Free is... free. If no backup then reinstall your licensed OS. If you have no licensed OS... it's Linux for you.
