Looking at windows 10: Opening an explorer window to:

C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Theme1

With view option 'full path in title bar' enabled: The explorer window shows the location as:

C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows 10

Listing the wallpaper directory above (in an admin command prompt) shows only the 'theme 1' directory. The same listing does not show the 'windows 10' directory.

My first thought was symlink/hardlink/junction but I have not yet been able to confirm that with any tools.

It's no doubt a 'missing something obvious' type question. Any idea how this works?

TLDR; Opening an explorer window to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Theme1 actually opens a window to C:\Windows\Web\Wallpaper\Windows 10. Don't know why yet.

It's been seen before e.g. http://www.filecritic.com/how-to-find-the-default-wallpapers-in-windows-10/ but I don't know if anyone has explained it

Edit: It is only in the Windows Shell.

If you go into the "Windows 10" folder and delete the desktop.ini then the folder name will appear correctly in Explorer.

If you try this then you can restore it from the Recycle Bin if it is enabled.

And here's more info with a link to a more detailed article
