I'm trying to re-install W7 on a older desktop machine. The install keeps halting early on claiming: "a required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing"

I don't even have a cd/dvd drive installed.

Any advice gratefully received.

Sounds like the Windows 7 setup program does not like to run from USB 3.0 devices.

The workaround seems to be plugging your flash drive into a USB 2.0 port or setting your USB 3.0 ports to appear as USB 2.0 in system setup.
