I am not a "mac" person

I sold my wonderful macbook pro circa 2010

I do not wnt to attempt a reset to factory settings in case i break it

If it was a mac I would use my revo uninstaller

what is the mac equivalent?

It is very difficult to break a Mac by simply reinstalling OS X. Just whack in the disc that came with the machine, hold option to boot from the disc, then use Disk Utility to wipe the hard drive and install a fresh copy. It's really simple, and your personal data would probably be wiped off better.

above +use the the secure erase option in the disk utility after booting the dvd/usb/whatever

Well the chap upstairs is having his usual laugh at my expense!
Just because i sold the mac for a good price he has to make me suffer

Of course I screwed it up
I deleted to many files and ended up with a load of question marks at the bottom of the scren
so i went to do a reinstall of the os thinking it would reinstall whats the latest yosemite?
for some reason it s reinstalling something called maverick?

I am hoping when its reinstalled it will then do an update to yosemite
