Anyone know for sure if the Telecom XT network MF636 USB Modem will work with Snow Kitty ?

Overseas some 3G sticks, aircards, AT&T cards etc. are NOT working which is a concern as the telecom mobile TStick is my only internet access.

I would see if I could try it on an updated Mac but if the Telecom stick is the same as the sierra wireless stick, once the Mac software is installed on your Mac it is NO longer on the stick, it will not work. ?Uninstalling with the stick inserted puts the Mac software back on the SW stick. Obviously no B.... use at all for corrupted software or to use with more than one Mac which is why the sierra wireless stick was returned in less than 2 weeks.

I really would like to update

The Telecom MF636 is made by ZTE. You can download the MAC software on their website if you require.

However not knowing much about MAC's my advise would be to visit a Telecom Store / Dealer and ask if you can test setting up a MF636 on your machine.

Thanks for the info ~ I'm already using the MF636 with Leopard OSX 10.5.8. and would like to update the OS.
Bit like all the Windows users wanting to update Vista to Windows 7 in a couple of months time. :)

I'll check to see if the ZTE software has an update for OSX 10.6.

Unfortunately can't confirm that model is working on Snow Leopard but the Sierra Compass 885 is working perfectly using it and snow leopard as I type this although I did get the latest version of the software from the Sierra site just to be sure.

That's great news lapze,
Others around the world have also had to install new software from Sierra wireless, glad it worked for you too.

Sprint Novatel 3G & the Sprint compass AirCard have been reported as Not working on Apple support discussions.
Apple have also stated on their list of non working software that AT&T Connect Cards do Not work with Snow Leopard.

Thanks nznbw but that is the same info as several months ago. OSX 10.6 came out yesterday and all bets are unfortunately off. No new software available from ZTE so will probably take the risk when I finally get my hands on a Snow Kitty disk. I can always reinstall Leopard (OSX 10.5) if the ZTE modem doesn't work.

lapze above has his sierra wireless working but has a different model to yours.
Best to try telecom Help.

You could attach the sierra modem (That's important ~ you have to attach the modem)> Uninstall the software using the sierra software uninstall option > restart your Mac > then install it again.
All the Best.

Unlike many USB wireless modems around the world:

The Telecom XT network MF636 USB Modem WORKS with Snow Kitty. Close software and remove modem before updating...
YAY.. .

Looks like I can get my EVDO Sierra Card subbed for an XT card so will go down that path. Thanks.

Good one ~ just one problem. The Telecom XT stick modem software works with Snow Leopard but it will not install.
It reinstalls the System Prefs network options every time you use it.
So awaiting an update from ZTE / Telecom.

Can you manually input the settings into OSX and use their modem utility rather than the Sierra Wireless launcher?

Thanks

Rod

I'm running Safari in 64 bit mode with the XT Stick modem.
Obviously I'm online.

The modem software asks to set up the modem every time I plug in the modem.
The modem is still shown as connected but is Not configured in System Prefs > Network.

Open Console & the MF636 modem is constantly writing to disc. Pages and pages per day.
Firewall log: Constant, as in every few seconds, Stealth mode connection attempts from Xtras DNS servers 202.27.156.72:53 & 202.27.158.40:53

I don't call this working well with no problems.
Need updated software asap.

Not really, it works fine it's just a pain in the butt clicking cancel every time you insert it.

The only way I have got things working (Sierra AirCard 595U) was by totally deleting all the old Sierra kexts and then running the Watcher Uninstaller which you can get from Sierra's support website. After deleting the Sierra kexts (rm -Rf /System/Library/Extensions/Sierra*) and rebooting, I could pick up the card using the WWAN feature Snow Leopard has added and connected.

However, once I disconnect, I have to delete the Sierra connection in Network Preferences and add it again if I want to be able to connect again.

All in all this is a really frustrating experience, I'm happy to go and buy a new data card if it's going to fix my problem but don't want to unless I'm certain it's going to fix my problem.

I guess Sierra need to hurry up and get the damn software out for 10.6. It's not like this hasn't been in beta for months...
