NBR has the scoop on a press release Fairfax will send out soon about their decision to stop publishing Computerworld, PC world and Reseller News:

Fairfax Magazines resign technology title licences

Fairfax Magazines will resign the licences, owned by IDG, to publish technology titles Computerworld, Reseller News and PC World early next month.

The decision has been made to close the print and websites of the titles under the Fairfax banner as the wider group adapts to changes driven by the current economic climate in publishing worldwide.

Staff are being consulted about their options to remain within the company, but it does look likely that job losses will occur.

The final date of publication are: Computerworld July 1,
Reseller News July 5 and PC World July 1. IDG plans to continue serving the New Zealand market with its global brands and products, and will announce its plans shortly.

Last Friday I answered a call from StopPress asking my views on this. It seems it's now confirmed.

This was reported in the herald last week anyway.

Computerworld used to be go-to place for jobs , pre-internet.

Last week it was rumours. This update is an actual press release confirming it.

A bit different...

it wasn't a rumour last week, or the week before that over at the pcworld forum

OK, didn't realise that.

They are in the same league as the steam engine I suppose. Obsolete through technology.

That discussion was about closing the forum down, not the publications. That came later. The rumours started based on the (now updated) NBR article.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

People still buy computer mags? Anyway, I guess there is APC or PC User, but I haven't bought a mag in years.

They sure do.  Would rather a physical mag like PCWorld rather than a PDF or some online publication.  Guess it will be APC from now on  unless someone else takes over NZ PCWorld..

RTA. Fairfax has to return the title to IDG, so they might try something, but not certain.

So you're the reason they went under :-)   Thanks for the APC PC User suggestions

PC User has gone. Went around late last year /early this year.  Not sure but think it went into TECHLife mag  or could even be APC.  Anyway it is gone just like some others cant remember if Maximum PC or might even be Atomic.  Anyway they have slowly been disappearing

Ahh, sorry about that ;) I used to buy them all the time, APC, PC User, .Net, but after awhile it just got too expensive at $8 to $20 a mag. Still got heaps stored in boxes at my parents place dating from the late 90s and 2000s. Must go for a visit and chuck them away one day
