G'day.

During my time spent in the U.S. I came to enjoy a bunch of things like Pop-Tarts, Sriracha and Tapatio hot sauces, Dr Pepper, Root Beer, etc. I've found places that will sell me most of what I like, but for some reason horseradish sauce is darned expensive here in NZ. Like twice the U.S. price for a tiny little jar of it in the supermarket even on special.

So I wonder - does any place here in NZ deliver a good quality horseradish sauce for a decent price?

Countdown have it listed on their online store for $3.49 a jar, if you are wanting it cheaper than that I suspect you are living in the wrong country.

As for Root beer its Awesome but its actually the same thing as Sarsaparilla. Bundeburg make this as do Golden Circle who make a horrible cheap version.

I like Golden Circle's breakfast juice okay, though too much is cheap apple. I don't like much else in their range. It all tastes cheap, as opposed to simply being cheap.

Horseradish sauce is widely available.

If all else fails look on line for shops that supply British food products for ex-pats. Coleman's or similar. I looked it up in Wikipedia and note from the following quote that the US version is NOT the actual thing, really! What you find here in NZ is more likely to the the European original.

"Horseradish sauce made from grated horseradish root and vinegar is a popular condiment in the United Kingdom and in Poland.[19] In the UK it is usually served with roast beef, often as part of a traditional Sunday roast, but can be used in a number of other dishes also, including sandwiches or salads. A variation of horseradish sauce, which in some cases may substitute the vinegar with other products like lemon juice or citric acid, is known in Germany as Tafelmeerrettich. Also popular in the UK is Tewkesbury mustard, a blend of mustard and grated horseradish originating in medieval times and mentioned by Shakespeare (Falstaff says: "his wit's as thick as Tewkesbury Mustard" in Henry IV Part II[20]). A very similar mustard, called Krensenf or Meerrettichsenf, is popular in Austria and parts of Eastern Germany. In France, sauce au raifort is popular in Alsatian cuisine.

Pack'n'Save has it as well. Good with the freshly fried fish. You'll find many items are cheaper in Pack'n'Save vs Countdown or New World and surprisingly Pack'n'Save has better choice of the fresh fish. (e.g. in Auckland Central Suburbs)

Marathasbackyard.co.nz is great and I make the most of their free shipping for orders over $20. I them it to get my Pop-Tarts for breakfast :-) I only wish they carried a greater variety. I miss the PB&J and various seasonal flavours.

I guess I was just used to paying less for horseradish sauce (and Geektastic is right - it is the American style I fell for, but the European type isn't too bad) from my time in the U.S.

I'll take a look. But Countdown's pop-tarts price is nowhere near as good as Martha's Backyard.

They have a list of places they sell to. I don't recognize any as online retailers. Perhaps you do?

We buy from Moore Wilson's here in Wellington.

I suggest that you get off your bum and email them and ask if they will sell to you online.

God loves a tryer, but I am not going to do your work for you. :(
