Hi there

My pc power supply when attached to a tester shows no -5v led.

I expect this means it is toast. Is this correct? Also, What does that particular output (or whatever) control?

The -5V supply is obsolete, you should only need it with old equipment. It has been optional in power supplies since 2003.

EDIT I see that some MB with onboard speaker amplifiers used -5v even after it was optional for PSU to include it. Left hand/right hand.

I was testing it as the system does not get to post even. Just the fans spin & hdd lights come on. No display whatsoever. No RAM beeps occur.

Yes. Have arrived at that conclusion too. Seems my Asus P5q pro turbo has popped it's clogs.
