I shopped at New World for a couple of years and found that the staff had a tendency to overload my bags.

Where are you guys located that supermarkets pack bags for you? I can't actually remember the last time I shopped at a supermarket where the staff packed your bags for you, at least in NZ.

That was at New World Paremata, but as far as I'm aware all of the New World supermarkets in the lower North Island still pack customers' bags.

MadEngineer: try different breeds of veggies. We’ve found the bugs leave the lettuce with purple leaves well alone.
Maybe they know something about them that we don't. Anyone ever seen bugs on oleander, or foxglove?

Googling suggests we got Red Oak Lettuce or very similar:

One other thing I like about it is you can harvest a few leaves at a time instead of the whole thing and it keeps growing

Lettuce Red Oak Pack of 6 (mitre10.co.nz)

I've only ever had one person pack bags correctly in my time in NZ. Was mid 30's burly bloke at Countdown and 'got it'. Understood the belt load order and also knew which objects to pack in what order and was a speed demon to boot.

I'd much rather take my trolley to the self checkout and pack my own back slowly and get it right that risk the checkout. Pak'n'Save renders this irrelevant though which is where we frequent the most.

MikeB4 annoys me. Since recovering from Covid-19 I went into a very strong remission and have been symptom free for weeks for my condition(s). Then I decide that because I feel great I have suddenly become younger, fitter and stronger which transpired that this should have include dumber.

I over did things, pushed way too hard and did a number on my Cervical and Lumbar spine. Stupid, stupid me. Thankfully the remission is holding.

That's a real pity Mike. But the remission part is still huge, albeit tempered by the spine setback

That it's almost impossible to still get decent forged scissors anywhere instead of crappy stamped ones. By forged I mean something like this:

By stamped I mean any scissors you can find in stores here where they stamp a scissor-shaped outline out of a metal sheet and chamfer the inside edges a bit.

More like Spamly. I found I couldn't get rid of their incessant emails about people nearby (i.e. within a thousand km or so) doing or wanting something or other. In the end, I set up an email rule to trash them.
