neb:MadEngineer: try different breeds of veggies. We’ve found the bugs leave the lettuce with purple leaves well alone.Maybe they know something about them that we don't. Anyone ever seen bugs on oleander, or foxglove?
Googling suggests we got Red Oak Lettuce or very similar:
One other thing I like about it is you can harvest a few leaves at a time instead of the whole thing and it keeps growing

By stamped I mean any scissors you can find in stores here where they stamp a scissor-shaped outline out of a metal sheet and chamfer the inside edges a bit.
