An interesting article on the E26, E27 sockets. I'd be surprised if anyone knew what they were using.

Another story about sockets. We replaced our caravan a year or so back and when plugging in a cigarette lighter type plug for 12 volts to charge a phone or what ever, it would blow the 12 volt fuse. Odd. It appeared, when I dug deeper, that the stupid Brits had taken a bit of metal from the centre pin up the side of the socket so it shorted to the side pins. Why? Absolutely no ideas why any designer would do something as stupid as that.

I replaced all 12 volt sockets with NZ available ones.

Where I can see it being annoying is reversing into an angle park, so you are facing towards traffic. I have experienced this on multiple occasions in country towns, where it blocks traffic on both sides of the road simultaneously.

I'm sure I read that this is an offence, but can't find it right now.

6.13 Parking at angle
(1) If the road controlling authority has indicated that vehicles may be parked only at an angle to the direction of the road-way, a driver must not stand or park a vehicle (other than a cycle) otherwise than in accordance with the direction indicated.

Similarly, a lot of people don't realise that turning into angled parks from the opposite side of the road is actually considered a U-turn. Something to consider if you're on a no U-turn street

Lately Word has been frustrating when you try to turn a block of text into a bullet point indented list.

Highlight one row, press the bullet list button and suddenly the whole document jumps forward. Stupid.

Not to mention how it randomly changes font half way down for no reason at all.

If referring to that anglepoise lamp, they are very common, there is one on the bench behind me, 30? 40? years old. Yes, it has an NZ plug on it. They should have the metalwork earthed but never did. As far as voltage goes, you put a 230 volt bulb in it - (if you have anything between the ears) and it is hard to buy 110 volt bulbs in this country anyway.

As for the comment "pretty common for devices to be designed to handle any voltage between 100 and 250", we're talking light bulbs if relating to the picture of the lamp and the right bulb has to be fitted.

History - "Anglepoise is an iconic British brand specialising in balanced arm lamps since 1932."

Sorry, I was talking about devices in general (e.g. kitchen appliances, home electronics), not this specific lamp. I should also have added a "recently manufactured" condition.

It's very common nowadays that the only difference between an "American" device and and an "Aus/NZ" device is the plug on the end.

... and if you refuse an interview, they are not afraid to invent a story and the subsequent slat is hard to get rid of by rational means. The complaints to the Press Council are increasing more and more.
