I don't think it's purely a dollar or cents issue. In my opinion it's a woke way of saying "We're environmentally aware and are saving the world one bag at a time".
trying to care for our only home and do their bit to stop pointless packing is not "woke" it's intelligent.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
MikeB4:Want your goodies in tote bag, easy fix, buy your own reusable bag and take it shopping. Job done.
The use of "woke" as a pejorative term. It's used to call those people who are considerate of the planet and others when a bad word can't be used because it would be too much in the nose.

Going to Kmart to try and find some clothing that apparently has 6 of them in stock, wasting an hour searching for it only to find 0, and the store staff can't help me either.
Next time I'll do click and collect, and they can do the searching for me.

The reason I used the term 'woke" is because the decision to ban the use of plastic bags was largely driven by the desire to stop them ending up polluting the environment through thoughtless/careless disposal. While removing plastic bags, "solved the problem" nothing at all was done to fix the underlying issue. People are still just as thoughtless/careless. In my opinion banning plastic bags was an easy simple way of window dressing the issue.
As I said in another post we only need to look around to see the number of face masks that litter our streets these days. Perhaps we should ban face masks as well? What about all the empty fast food boxes, wrappers, empty drink bottles etc we see littering the roadsides?
Recently I was stopped behind a vehicle at an intersection when the plastic cap off a Pump bottle was flicked out the window onto the road. That typifies the attitude of a lot of people I'm sorry to say.
If we were really wanting to care for our environment we should be carrying out a high profile campaign to educate everyone about the effects of littering. Once we fix that problem we also fix most of the environmental problems that stem from littering.
I think my use of "woke" was appropriate in the circumstances.

Generally if a store has low single-digit quantities of something that they should have in sizeable quantities then it's often likely to be a stockkeeping error rather than a true quantity-available count. That is, there may actually be three left on the shelf somewhere or just as likely there's a rounding error of three units and the actual quantity is zero, so best to phone first if you're making a special trip just to get that thing.

In that case they should say it's out of stock, not have 6 showing as available. I was going there anyway, just a pain.
I've done click and collect at another outlet, so let's how reliable their system is 🤞
