I truncated the process somewhat but ultimately if the defendant evades payment and manages to avoid direct bank withdrawals then repossession followed by police action if unsuccessful occurs. I didn't mean that officers would pay a visit the next day, just that ultimately the consumer wouldn't have to deal with collections themselves.

I had thought about the disputes tribunal myself but it costs $100 to lodge your application and it can take over 6 months before you actually get a hearing date.  For what I paid for the fakes it didn't seem to be worth it.  I would have take 1 day off work and the addresses are probably fake and we can't get information about address on bank account because of privacy issues.  Really not worth the time and effort to get judgment against them.  I hadn't kept a copy of the website details so really had nothing to prove that they were telling consumers that they were genuine.   Have moved on and purchased some genuine ones but it did take a while to get GHD to confirm that they are genuine.  There are so many things to look out for and not just the codes.  GHD didn't even ask about the codes just wanted to know about the symbols and other stuff on the actual straightener and what the ticket on the cord said.  Learnt a lesson thats for sure.

They've possibly left NZ and returned to China or where-ever they came from originally.

All they have to do is claim bankruptcy and theyre in the clear to start all over again........   sure, it has to go under someone elses name, but still be run by same people doing the exact same thing.... my folks got caught out by a builder (was on that TV show on TV that started a few weeks ago about dodgy builders), turns out hes onto his 5th company or something, just registers the business under a family members name and off he goes again.
NZ law needs a major looking at on that side of things....

In my experience they usually hear cases in well under 6 weeks and I believe there's a staggered payment. If your claim is for under $1000 then you only pay something like $30 for the hearing. However, regarding your personal time, if it's more valuable than the goods then why waste it? (other than personal satisfaction Wink)

You probably get this website because it has people on it that have been ripped off with fake GHDs that have probably come from that company!
