The thing is they are sitting on heaps of stuff that would be easy to move and not at a loss in their cables range. They have some pretty nice looking speaker cables. Laughable at $80 but I would probably spend $15-20 on them.

Westgate wanted ~$500 for an opened iPhone 5 with no power adapter and used headset (seriously: WTF?!), and I think it was $250 for an iPhone 4, and $280 for an iPhone 4S.

Very light on the actual 'clearance' items, a few TVs were half-price (incl, two 55" models, one Pano, one home brand; both Full HD), but yeah, certainly nothing to write home/jump for joy over.

DSE Riccarton had micro usb cables for $2 today but looked like few had been sold.     Coffee maker/kitchen section deserted both times I went in.    Their tiny camera section seemed to only have display cameras left judging by the number of boxes in the glass cabinet underneath.       Looked like all the bargain Toshiba drives had gone only Seagate 1tb at $99.00.    Some stuff definitely not a bargain a multi card reader for $49.95.     Harvey Norman's clearance store had a similar one at $19.95.    Plenty of staff on but absolutely no queues at check out.
Even with a sale going on they looked no busier than Noel Leemings.

'There was also an old-model Nikon D-SLR down to $150 from $450' saw that on the previous page, now there's a bargain unless it's been on display the whole time & maybe with its lens off gathering dust on the sensor.

Picked up a PS4 Watch Dogs Bundle from Dick Smith Mt. Maunganui today for $400. Not a massive saving but cheap for a PS4 nonetheless!

Hard to see this store continuing in it's present model much longer.

They tend to be a stockist of non major brands too, such as JVC etc

scuwp: Not sure what I am missing here?  Went into the Te Rapa Hamilton store this morning and the normal half-empty shelves and sale prices that really aren't.  Couldn't identify anything worth getting even slightly excited over.

Most prices aren't displayed I found, you have to ask. That printout on the choice cheapie website helps. So a lot of the deals could still be there. I picked up a cross cut shredder which wasn't advertised on special , but had read on here that they were priced at 10

I just went up to the counter where they had piles of undistributed sales labels and asked if I could look through them. That's how I found the $10 original iPad cases and the $150 Nikon DSLR (which led to me asking about the only two mirror less models in the cabinet).

The staff I've dealt with over the past couple of days have been really good, despite what must be trying and uncertain times. That said, I did hear one staff member let rip with a bout of f this f that after someone set off the alarm attached to one of the phones!

dolsen: Sony a6000 for $599, save $700

Score!!!  Which store?

I think any store that has it available; my local (Palmerston North) has two of them in stock (one being held for me - think I'll buy it as I can't turn it down at that price).

....

You won't regret it.
I paid $980 for mine a couple of months back and I'm still chuffed with it at that price.

Good to know as I did end up buying the A6000. Given that it's my first fully controllable camera since I had a Canon film SLR over 10 years ago it's going to be s steep learning curve!

I'm just not looking forward to buying a second lens, as I've researched how expensive Sony e-mount lenses are! That'll need to be s long way off...

True. Looking on Ebay it looks to be more cost-effective to bring them in from overseas, even with $40 odd shipping.
One of my reasons for sticking with Sony is that I've got a handful of half reasonable Minolta lenses that I can use on the A6000 body (I also bought the E - A adaptor).

Also, if you've got an Android phone there's a cool (free) app out there to allow time-lapse (using wifi remote control, I haven't tried the native on-camera Sony app).

They don't just stock JVC, they bring it in as a 'house brand'.
There's no extended credit / rebates / sending stock back to suppliers when you bring it in yourself...
The complete lack of organisation during the sale, combined with a seeming lack of leadership in all the stores I visited (and there were a few) says they're circling the plughole. When they castled all their 2IC's a few years ago, that was the tip of the 'remove the experience, more expensive staff' regime to save costs and look good for the sharemarket float.

Last off-topic post on this, I promise!

Thanks for heads-up on the app - will def. check it out. I'll also check out eBay for lenses. I've also posted another thread regarding UV filters for the camera, which you may be able to answer. Any other hints and tips you can give on the camera (or other resources for this) would be much appreciated!

Picked up a few things today.

  • 10" digital photo frame for $28, which will be someones stocking filler.
  • 4400 MAh powerbank for $10, which will also be a stocking filler
  • A couple of Xbox 360 games for my seldom-used (boxed since last Christmas) console - $10 each
  • Cordless screwdriver, $15
  • And by best score, a Panasonic DVD recorder, same model as the one in my living room (XW390 - with a twin tuner, 500GB drive, external AV inputs, networkable, with a DLNA server) for $159.

Dead chuffed about the recorder.
