johno1234: The thing more dangerous than a sharp knife is a blunt knife, so a small thing that annoys me? A blunt knife.

I'm guilty here.
One of my pet hates is having to sharpen a blunt knife.
I must sharpen a few this morning.

Oh, and a non-stick pan that sticks.

We have that rule in our house too. This was a brand-new knife so was incredibly sharp. Just a fraction of a moment of inattention. Made a nice clean cut so likely no scar.

May I recommend this?

It's fantastic, and the definition of easy to use. I saved myself the cost of it within about a year.

Those are pretty nice, but a bit pricey and take up a fair bit of space in the kitchen. If you want a cheaper/more compact version, get a Vulkanus sharpener.

Genesis letter today advising of price hike and giving the new prices minus GST so they look better.
Time to search out the power thread.

Seemingly unlimited corporate greed.

I know they provide jobs, I know they keep the economy ticking over, I know they owe a return to their shareholders, but more than US$27 BILLION profit? And at the same time backtracking on earlier "environmental conscience" promises? Really?

The traffic!

I took my son's car to the mechanic this morning - they're 2KM away and it took 3/4 hour round trip (including the 10 min to sign some paperwork and explain what needs doing).

Madness. Traffic jams in every direction, too!!

You can tell school holidays are over.

This one noted by my wife (it seems I don't notice these things). The apparent "requirement" for female TV sports and weather presenters to teeter about in extraordinarily high heels while attempting to present their respective segments without over-balancing.

Hayley Holt used to wear sports shoes / trainers, which seemed appropriate.
The current TV1 sports presenter lady is somewhat vertically challenged, so maybe her wearing heels is a legitimate tactic! :)

But it is odd that the female presenters themselves (or the TV station's dress code?) require them to totter around in 75mm stiletto heels. Can't be good for their toes or ankles, either

How good are these Vulkanus Sharpener's? I've got a bunch of small knives and kitchen knives i'd love to sharpen up more conveniently - right now i'm using Japanese Sharpening stones, which are awesome but you really have to concentrate for good technique etc

KFC changing their spice recipe - KFC chicken 10 years ago was SO much more tasty than it is now :( Did they have MSG or something which they were forced to take out? Or did they cheapen ingredients? Is there somewhere where they still serve the original flavour?

They're a tradeoff between convenience and quality, they're OK if you don't want to invest the time and effort. If you're using stones to sharpen then stay with those, none of the fancy gadgets beats the finish you get with them.

I think it's just fashionable that presenters are made to stand up these days. Seems a bit silly - they just stand in one spot so there's no advantage made of being 'mobile'.

News is so produced and directed - it really annoys me that they are creating an entertainment package instead of just being informative and factual. If only the could report everything instead of editorialising everything.

MSG is still found in a lot of foods even today - look for "Flavour Enhancer E621" on the ingredients.
