Just splitting is not always the answer. Customs is known to have consolidate two or more shipments for cost calculation if they arrive in the country on the same day or very close. Have to really keep them apart.

I just paid for the first half and was planning on waiting until Monday to pay for the second half so hopefully that's enough. I think I'll also get the second batch delivered to a different address to be extra safe.

It probably won't be. I have two physically separate items come from one vendor overseas, 3-5 days apart, I got sent a bill. This was a few years ago.

It can be so random too. Before Xmas I imported two bathroom taps from Germany. What I paid for the two taps would have only got me one tap if purchased here in NZ. As this was the first item I have ever imported costing over the NZD$1,000 threshold, I applied for a Client Code with Customs to import them. I kept an eye on tracking and saw them arrive in NZ. I contacted Customs to ask what the next steps were and they said I needed to contact the shipping company to get the import documents off them. I rang NZ Post who told me they were with the courier for delivery...

Between Xmas and New Years I purchased some speakers from the US. The NZD value of them was around $750. I calculated GST and import fees into my spend (an additional $160 or so) but again they were delivered to me without any interaction with or payment to Customs.

In neither case was GST and import fees built into the shipping cost of the goods. I got very lucky both times.

If you don't mind waiting, remember that you have up to 21 days from when the item arrived in the warehouse to arrange shipping for it. So if the items only recently arrived in the warehouse, you can probably receive 1 package before having to arrange shipping for the other.

I'm going on holiday and I have a parcel that needs to be paid for, so I was thinking I would send it to my holiday address as I'm there for two weeks, and there won't be anyone here to sign for it. However I really don't want it arriving to the holiday home after I've left, which I'm concerned about since my last parcel took 2 1/2 weeks to get to me.

NZ post says around six days, is that about what people are experiencing?

Just had a good experience with Youshop.

Parcel arrived at the USA warehouse on the 8th, invoiced and paid on the 9th and parcel sent on the 10th.

Arrived at my door 17th (all dates February)

They "repackaged" my parcel. By this, the made 4 small cuts in the sides of the box so the height was smaller - Packed my item a bit tighter but absolutely no issue with doing it, even if paying $5 (or whatever the repacking fee is) was steep for what they did, it saved me about $20 in the long run. The quote with the online calculator was spot on - $75 - but with the repacking i paid about $55.

Just wish they accepted larger parcel sizes.

just a query regarding You Shop.

I ordered an Amazon Echo which I sent to my Youshop Address and was Delivered on Tuesday (US Time) this week, but still hasn't shown in my YouShop Account, they say normally takes about 48hrs to show up, but am just a little concerned about where to go from here.

I have contacted Amazon and have requested a proof of delivery from them for this

any advise would be appreciated as where to from here

Yeah this can happen... What you can do is 'Claim' a parcel by entering in your Amazon shipping number and if there's a corresponding tracking number in the system then bingo claim it as yours.

Failing that just message them.
