Went paddleboarding for the first time yesterday on my new iSUP.

Didn't realise until after I had been on and off the board several times and got back into the beach that I had been wearing my very expensive glasses.

Needless to say, after a bit of frantic searching, I realised where they were and resigned myself to wearing my spares while I get the insurance claim underway.

Photographic evidence from my wife confirmed that i was wearing the glasses when I first jumped aboard the watercraft.

Whoops!

Your insurance company must LOVE You! (as ours does us).

That a Temu order on 30 January, arrived direct into Christchurch on 02 February and is only just being sent to NZPost in Christchurch for possible delivery tomorrow!

Took 4 days to get to NZ and over 5 days within Christchurch!

Hmmm...I have a feeling I'll be put on something like a "no fly list" for insurance companies soon.

There's an audible sigh as I say my name now - then they look at the file and go, "right - so we have a couple of active claims on the file here..." Tell me something I don't know.

Having to wear corrective glasses is bad enough as it is without losing them

On a recent trip I found my prescription sunglasses weren’t sitting in the usual spot in the car. Ran back through where I was last with them and realised I was wearing them lifted up on my head the evening before when we went on an evening stroll to check out a waterfall or worse had them fall off my head. Thought I must have put them down on a bench seat when I took a FaceTime call. Return walk trip time stated 60 minutes but I was in that much of a panic I did it in something like 20 minutes.

Glasses weren’t even there. Even drove back to the accommodation to check if I’d left them in the room. They were then found somehow stuffed into my backpack which is weird as I’d never put them away like that without being in a case.

Yeah, I was hoping against hope that I had hastily stuffed them into my beach bag - but photographic evidence proved otherwise.

At least they still make those frames. I really liked them.

If you think that's bad, how about a $4k hearing aid that get flicked out by a twig as you are mowing around garden trees?

I can't imagine how many false claims were made as a result of the Auckland floods last year.

THankfully ours were from the year before and the escalating costs have been as a direct result of the insurer's own contractors, not us.

I have made a lot of claims in teh last 5 years though - was just insuring my youngest son's first car and the question was asked: "Have you had any claims in the last five years?" My answer was, "I thimnk you'd better take a look at my file".

Ugh, 2FA, the universal hammer for every screw and bolt. I sometimes work with an organisation that requires you VPN in, and the VPN auth is done via password. The VPN also allows for crypto auth, done automatically and invisibly by the client, but the default auth is password (some details fudged here to avoid identifying anything or anyone). This is on the public Internet and gets a certain amount of door-handle-rattling, so in response they've shut it down and are considering whether to switch the VPN that allows crypto auth to require 2FA with the password, or to require that the VPN that allows crypto auth to be run over a second VPN to protect it.

"I need to drive this nail into the wall, maybe I can give the hammer I'm holding to a tradie in exchange for him driving it in for me".

2nd annoyance. It is no wonder motor bikes feature highly in crashes. On way home, SH1 near Karitane, I come around a blind corner and two bikes were weaving in and out of large group of cars. I had to very quickly veer left. They had no right what so ever to be passing at that point. Madness. No gaps and it looked like they were pushing their way in.

Possibly apocryphal story, FOAF was an EMT (emergency medic) in a NY hospital and they urgently needed an organ donor for something. A more senior EMT said "don't worry, it's raining, there are motorcyclists out, we'll get an organ donor shortly".

Number8.bid is an extreme example of this, you get people gambling with near-new prices of thousands of dollars for something that could have been thrashed within an inch of its life, in fact you don't even know it works beyond the fact that it turns on, and no warranty or comeback of any kind. Case in point, and this is a cheaper example, this is now, with the 33% buyer premium that most people forget about, at close to the new price with warranty and calibration guarantee. This is a 70Mhz four-channel scope, new with warranty that's $500-1000 from a reputable manufacturer that isn't Rohde and Schwartz and the current bid is $3,000 for unknown-condition, no warranty, no money back. With premium it's closer to $4k, and full retail new price which no-one should be paying is $5k or so.

Is there some corporate tax advantage to doing this that I'm not aware of or are people just stupid?

The listings you are probably referring to have been heavily advertised on Facebook to the point that people have asked if I have seen it because I have 3d printers too so must be interested. Would explain the absurdity bids with all that promo.

Ah, OK. There's definitely something crazy going on there, for the power supplies I can buy three Korad KA3005D's for less than the price of one of the triple-output (in reality only dual-output) Keithleys they've got listed and get better noise figures and independent control on each one, as well as a full warranty and support.
