Media hysteria annoys me. One of the keys on Mum's ~15 year old keyboard has stopped working, and she's convinced that it's due to Crowdstrike.

Don't you have a deposit coin or chip in your shopping cart that you can only get back when you connect the trolley to the station?

No. I know the things you're talking about (I've seen them in Europe) but I've never seen them over here. They might exist in "high trolley crime" areas though.

It‘s a simple, mechanical keychained mechanism.

Countdown (Now Woolworths) trialed it at their Riccarton Store (Moved to Church Corner) decades ago and the backlash from the public was so bad etc that they dumped the idea.

They even had a person who gave you the coin to release the lock, so it "cost" you nothing and you got to keep the coin on returning it.

.....and still enough people refused to shop there and the drop in sales forced their hand.

(It was my local supermarket at the time)

Carrefour had the same thing happen in Dubai. Now all the trolleys have the stupid things but they aren’t used.

When my dad turned off his PC for the night he would disconnect the modem cable from the back. So that nobody could hack into his PC. I don't know if he kept doing that all the way up until he got wifi.

Maybe Auckland's public transport would work better if it wasn't run by idiots:

For non-Aucklanders, that's a bus stop served by the city's Inner and Outer Link buses.

The reference map on the Link bus stop is for Auckland's trains (and Northern Busway pretend train).

Everything having an "edit" button these days has indirectly annoyed me: I used to type things and then verify them before submitting, but these days I tend to just submit, then proofread, then go back and edit. It's a hard habit to break!

(Let's see whether I've managed to leave an error in this post...)

We're decades into computers being commonplace, and people still save (non-photo) graphics as JPEG files.

I'm annoyed at the moment because I am possibly/probably going to be in the market for a new bike (mountain bike) in late August/early September, but all the sales are on now and the discounts are deep (and I do not currently have the available funds)

It's likely that more sales won't happen with similar discounts until at least late October (to coincide with Labour Weekend), which will not suit me at all.

If the discount is worth it then a month or 2 on the credit card might cover it. Or see if they will do a traditional layby on it (not the part payment company that confusingly used that as their name and then went broke)

Intune.

Configuration and Compliance policies.

GAHHH!

Brain hurt.

Bonus side. First day after the Compliance policy was pushed, 60% of devices are now complaint. So I've got that going for me.

Coca Cola in 2L PET bottles goes flat really soon after you've first opened them and drunk some.

I've not had a problem. I do consider their best before dates to be far too optimistic however.
