freitasm: But who benefits and why? And what's the implied relationship with the government?
KiwiNZ: All I can do in response to the last pages of this thread I have read is laugh.

Government benefits from expanding their control yet again and anybody else that they choose (as they have to grant permission) to work with.

Have you actually read the bill in full, or are you still just believing the FUD?
Having spent many years working with food safety programs I believe this piece of legislation is one of the best things that's been introduced in NZ for many years.
The proof is now on producers to prove their food is safe, and stop dodgy retailers selling unsafe food, from unsafe premises.
If you're so anti the bill why can't didn't you submit a submission when it went through the select committee process? I would have thought that would have been the best time to object to it.

codyc1515: Increase dependance on the government and corporations for food.

Say hello to mechanically sepa...rated chicken. It’s what all fast-food chicken is made – things like chicken nuggets and patties. Also, the processed frozen chicken in the stores is made from it. Basically, the entire chicken is smashed and pressed through a sieve — bones, eyes, guts, and all. it comes out looking like this. There’s more: because it’s crawling with bacteria, it will be washed with ammonia, soaked in it, actually. Then, because it tastes gross, it will be reflavored artificially. Then, because it is weirdly pink, it will be dyed with artificial color. But, hey, at least it tastes good, right?

There is also nothing wrong with mechanically seperated chicken. When did anything every get sick or die from eating it? I bet never.

Really? Well obviously you've never had good chicken before? People may not drop dead straight away, but over time the human body can break down because of over processed foods. There are studies indicating that this is happening.
It can be a slow process.
freitasm: It's always the same. People post links to the first storyGet your facts right, if they are going to be used as conspiracy theory supporting evidence.
sbiddle: And the food bill has absolutely nothing at all to do with this.
The key thing you're missing is that it moves to a risk based food safety analysis. These comments show it's very clear you have not read the bill, have a limited understanding of it, and also have absolutely no understanding of HAACP, food safety and risk management.
