Regarding lawn mowing as a potential cause:

I wasn't home at the time. The two closest neighbours weren't mowing their lawns at the time (one done earlier in the week, other wasn't home at the time). Maybe one diagonally across the street but I couldn't hear any mowing on the outside camera audio.

I did consider mowing as a possible culprit but it would have to have cleared a 1.2m fence in the process. But yep, stones from a mower can certainly fly a long way.

Will probably never find out where it came from.

Playing at Remuera GC with a mate a few weeks ago, he drilled his second hard left on the the 6th and smacked so hard into a neighbouring house that it bounced all the way back onto the golf course. The owner came out and looked at us, then looked around his back lawn for a ball, found nothing, shrugged and went back inside. I suspect there's a significant golf ball sized dent somewhere on his cladding or roof. Same mate put one through the window of a house down the left side of #3 on the old Millbrook course. He's a lefty with a bit of a cut. That house was also occupied and there was a chat with the occupant.

I remember playing in a corporate tournament where ther were some lovely newish townhouses built along the perimeter of the golf course.
One of them had a ball lodged in the stucco (presumably plastered polystyrene) cladding. It was quite the feature and I'd imagine would be somewhat off-putting for the average potential buyer at an open home

All of the homes had dings and dents. I'd imagine they also had toughened glass windows, due to the amount of strikes they looked to have suffered.

Mutter, mutter, Mr E never oils the grass shears and they were all rusty and sticking, hopeless in my hands. Take them inside open laundry cupboard grab the CRC, spray liberally in any place that had a gap or a spring and inside a few holes, sprayed the blades too. A few minutes later while opening and closing to ensure the oil spread, noticed the blades were not smooth and a tad sticky. Rushed to the laundry. The can was spray adhesive. Panic, poured some isopropyl alcohol over them and then sprayed with CRC in the wild hope it would get fixed.

I’m sure there are plenty of stories like this where people have got lube confused with something else.

That might be relevant if it was a noise issue but i don't think being there first means you can fire golf balls over the fence. The golf club did put up a wire netting fence but it was nowhere near high enough where the balls crossed the boundary. When we were there it was 2nd shot after 18th tee or coming the otherway practice shots from the clubhouse. Things became more serious after we left. Sections got subdivided and plaster finish leaky homes were built. Any ball damage to the wall meant the whole wall needed painting as a patch would show. A line of trees was put in on the boundary that are now 2 or 3m higher than the houses.

Having skin cancer removed tomorrow under a local anaesthetic and because of my needlephobia have barely slept in about a week and a half.

I'm looking forward to taking the wild dose of drugs I have been prescribed to numb my brain, just so I can actually relax.

And then I have to have stiches removed in a couple of weeks! That's also got the brain going...grrr....another period of sub-optimal sleep.

Which hole is the thirteenth these days? 13th seems to be a par three now. I thought there was a dog leg hole early on the back nine that had a house that would get clattered if you went left.
