kryptonjohn: In today's Herald, Musk has lost the plot, calling hero diver a 'pedo'.
I think Musk has lost his mind and thinks he's Tony Stark.
Can you provide a link? Not all of us read the Herald.
I would highly recommend continuing with *not* reading the Herald!
But the story has been reported widely now, e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2018/jul/15/elon-musk-british-diver-thai-cave-rescue-pedo-twitter
I see in the above that Musk isn't backing down or apologising - offering a bet that his allegation is true.
I have no idea whether Musk has evidence, or is just making an assumption that an expat Brit living in Thailand is dodgy, or is just lashing out because of the pressure coming from Tesla's financial situation.

My opinion of him is dropping by the day. What a putz. Doesn't get the credit he wanted, decides to start insulting people.
He needs to get out of the public eye for a bit I think. The pressure is getting to him, and he isn't handling it well. Telsa is Musk, if he has a melt down, it could take the company with it.
The world needs Telsa I think, but some people need to be in the shadows and he appears to be one of them.
Tesla seems to suffer from not having expertise in manufacturing cars at scale. It has great technology and IP, but bad manufacturing. Maybe the best thing for Tesla would be for the company to go bust and get snapped up by a company with low cost mass manufacturing capability like Mahindra.

Thanks for the link. It sounds to me like Musk is having some kind of breakdown from all the pressure he has been under. Not that I ever much liked him or his Paypal buddy anyway.

You don't tell someone with potential resources and willingness to help to bugger off. If it doesn't work out you put it to the side and leave it as an option. Not tell him and the world it was worthless and he shouldn't have tried. If Musk was excessively pushy and was wasting time I can see where the diver is coming from as well.
I'm taking it as the brit laid it out straight for the media and Musk fell for the bait. Bad PR and now Musk is in deep unless by some ridiculousness the diver actually is what he says.
This article gives quite a detailed 1st hand account of what occurred how in regards to the actual rescue
The Thai SEALs were (initially?) using the wrong equipment and protocols (no redundancy) and the 4 who stayed in the cave didn't carry enough air to get out without replenishment...(I think I also read the Thai SEALs are now revising their protocols and starting cave dive training)
Also note it appears the stretchers were not used on under water sections
Astonishing they all got out alive!
SpartanVXL: I can see where Musk got off. When the diver essentially said to the media that he shouldn't have even been there its pretty much telling him to f*** off.
Surely Musk had enough sense to see how unsuitable his mini sub was. It doesn't bend, so it would not get through some of the more convoluted sections.
It would also be somewhat difficult to manhandle in dry sections.
Then consider Musk's track record of delivering on time-lines - horrid. Even his chief engineer acknowledges that "Elon time" is different from standard time (watch TED interview with her).
I can see why the diver told him to sod off. He was either naive or seeking the limelight.
And now he has called a diver who participated in a successful rescue a paedophile.
This is the latest in a string of bizarre behaviours/posts by Musk. Perhaps the pressure at the 'giga' factory is getting to him ...

Batman: I'm surprised that anyone is surprised at what musk did and even defending him
Don't look on the Elon Musk Facebook page love-in... Its full of support for his actions and people actually defending his words indicating that he wouldn't say it without proof!
More grist for the lawsuit.

I like that he tried to help, but the pr s***storm was definitely not necessary. I reckon that the diver should also have kept his opinion about Musk to himself and the talk on the rescue neutral. The media was drooling at the bait plus the responses they got.
I'd rather Musk (probably more Tesla than Musk) not fail. The efforts and tech that were made by him and the company have been one the few things in recent times to get things off their rear ends and change.
If he keeps digging....not much to do but get the popcorn and watch. I just hoped that people would be a bit more focused on his intentions rather than his presented 'ego'.
There are far bigger people (sharks) than Musk that stand to benefit massively if he/tesla go down.
