Bluestone 42. BBC comedy about the lives of a group of soldiers serving in a bomb disposal detachment in Afghanistan. Very dark and often funny at the same time and ,going on comments , very accurate. on Prime Video. 3 seasons .

If you like BlueStone 42 you should really catch Hut 33 by James Cary. Outstanding Radio Comedy.

Loved Zomboat - UK Show on TVNZ On Demand

Current Watching "The Cleaner" c/o BBC iPlayer

We started watching 'the cleaner' - Love Greg Davies. Its a bit slower and less laugh out loud than other stuff he has done - but its still good.

He is usually funniest with an ensemble cast to play against.

Each episode is pretty much a 'two hander' - ie only 2 real characters and dialogue - which is actually a pretty difficult situation to sustain.

Out of curiosity I found the original German series that it is based on - "Crime scene cleaner' or 'Der Tatortreiniger'. Its actually pretty good as well.

Zomboat was good 👍

Watched The North Water on BBC… it’s got great actors and acting. It’s set in the 1800s on whaling / sealing ships in North Sea, it’s dark, stormy, not family friendly, but gripping.

Sex Education Season 3 starts this Friday 17 September 2021 on Netflix.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two seasons and it scores in the high 8's on IMDb.

This is about the messy hormonal lives of teenagers at a co-ed school set in the UK. A socially awkward high school teenage boy (Asa Butterfield) who lives with his divorced sex therapist mother (Gillian Anderson), teams up with a high school classmate to set up an underground sex therapy clinic at school. Great writing, great casting and gripping storylines, full of that very British humour. It is mostly filmed in Wales at a real school during their school breaks. The country side settings are fantastic.

WARNING: sex, nudity, masturbation, marijuana, alcohol, smoking, profanity, mild violence. Oh! and serious humour & laughing.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Genius S1 on Disney+ , Series 1 is about Albert Einstein. I thought it was excellent.

Good to see another season of Sex Education arriving soon.

Another one that dropped this week is Reservation Dogs (Taika Waititi co-creator/exec producer) - first three episodes up on Disney + as of yesterday. Wasn't initially sure about it for the first part of E1 but it's really grown on me.

American Rust on Neon. US drama set in the rust belt of Pennsylvania. Series of 9 episodes, coming out weekly - E1 available now. Excellent, based on that one episode - IMO better than the 6.9 showing on IMDB.

Ah, I went through the upgrade on our Panasonic OLED last night but hadn't explored what changes that had brought, so thanks for the heads-up. While we've been able to use Disney Plus on a GCCWGTV, it does have (maybe now fixed) problems with judder when playing content at particular refresh rates, so it'll be great to use the built-in app.

As for this series - I was quite disappointed last night to find we'd watched all three. We've got so used to the Netflix approach of dropping a whole season at one go this delayed approach can be annoying! (Though I do get the anticipation aspect, eg the family eagerly awaited each new episode of Loki or The Mandalorian.)

Tonight I was hunting through BBC looking for something to watch and saw just the name of a documentary that I thought might be interesting.

Within one sentence of the start of the narration, prior to any credits, I picked up the iconic and beautiful voice of Peter Coyote. The voice, in conjunction with the unmistakable style of the opening shots, immediately identified this as a Ken Burns film. Peter Coyote narrates most, if not all, of Ken Burns’ wonderful docos.

I’m a huge fan of Ken Burns (and of Peter Coyote) and have watched most of his work - the most famous being his 1990 series The Civil War, which I have watched several times.

This is his new six-part doco Hemingway which first aired in June this year. Absolutely fantastic stuff if you like this style - so good that you know from the outset that you’ll be sad when it’s finished.

Oh wow! Isaac Asimov's Foundation books are being made into an 80 episode epic. I just need to convince my wife that this is definitely not SiFi. If I am reading this right, it goes out on Apple, but something this big should surely be more widely available.

Just started watching Vigil - looks like it will be excellent. It’s a British police procedural six-part miniseries starring Suranne Jones, Martin Compston and Rose Leslie. The plot is in part inspired by the conspiracy theories surrounding the sinking of the FV Gaul - a Scottish fishing trawler.

The mysterious disappearance of a Scottish fishing trawler and a death on-board the fictional Vanguard class submarine HMS Vigil brings the police into conflict with the Royal Navy and British security services.

Just heard that Vigil is (or soon will be) on TVNZ and TVNZOD.

The production values are great but I’m not yet convinced the show is of the same quality. It’s trying but lacks a spark so far to make it really compelling.
