Just finished The Kominsky Method (Netflix)

Funny as hell, enjoyable and heartfelt story, and short episodes make it an easy watch. Quality big name cast.  Was also nice to know it was properly finished at the end of the short season 3.  A real jewel 9/10.

Surprising how invested you get with some of the characters...

Into the last episodes of a couple of shows I am watching now:

The Morning Show (Apple TV+)

Foundation (Apple TV+)

Both have been good, in my opinion.

I'm also quite heavily invested in Invasion  (also on Apple TV+).

Finished watching The X Files (Disney+) all the way from Season 1 to Season 11, with the movies in between the proper seasons. Still a good show. I wonder how much of that influence the rise of conspiracy theories in the 90s, when I first watched it.

Hellbound  Netflix. Another mad Korean series about religion and cults and social media and i watched the first 3 episodes and have never been as unsettled watching a series as this one . im gearing up to watch the final 3 episodes to it as it seems to be 1 season but broken into  2 parts. Not sure it's entertaining but it is worth watching. 8/10

Well...both Morning Show and Foundation ended with me wanting more.

Foundation was such a slow burner, but man I got hooked and am really invested now.

Morning Show - I just want to know what happens! Who dies? How does the world cope with Covid? What about the presidential elections? How does that turn out? What about Chip?

Anyway - Invasion is trucking along nicely. I'm also going to start The Wheel of Time on Prime Video.

The finale of The Morning Show definitely wasn't as explosive as the first series finale. I was slightly disappointed.

Watched the first three episodes of Wheel Of Time in the weekend, was quite enjoyable. Not being familiar with the books, it wouldn't have hurt to have some kind of prelude/primer on the world and the various factions etc.

Keen for the next episode to drop on Friday

Wheel of Time back story for anyone interested.  No genuine spoilers but you may learn aspects of the world prematurely compared to just watching the series.

In this world there is source of magic called the one power.  This has two aspects Saidar and Saidin.  Saidin can be channeled by men (Asha'man) it's harsh, difficult to control and very powerful, Saidar is channeled by women (Aes Sedai) and is more gentle but still very powerful.

In this world events are woven by the wheel of time.  It's circular.  Each cycle is an age.   The story is set in the third age.   The weaving of the wheel can be seen as fate/destiny.  Some people have the ability to reweave their own fate (and by extension those around them) they are called Ta'veren.

In the age of legends men and women used the one power, they were different but equally powerful.

The overall baddie is the Dark One.   The Dragon was Lews Therin Thelamon he and his followers used magic to imprison the Dark One.  But the Dark One had the last laugh he tainted Saidin.  This caused any male channeling the  one source to go mad.  Notably The Dragon ended up killing his family. This mass outpouring of uncontrolled magic 'broke' the world, rearranging the geography at an apocalyptical scale.  Civilisation, technology and arcane arts were largely lost.

In the third age, there are no Asha'man.  The Aes Sedai hunt down men who can channel power and 'gentle' them, which means removing their ability to channel power.  Women who can channel are taken in and trained to become Aes Sedai in 'The White Tower"

The Aes Sedai are divided into seven Ajah (sects).  Each has it's own area of expertise.  E.g. Blue is justice, Red hunts down men who can channel power.

The Aes Sedai serve the light (antithesis of the dark one). The Children of Light also serve the light.  They are a fundamentalist militia who also conduct an inquisition.

The servants of the dark one are shadow-spawn - creatures that are made not born.  This includes humanoid monster called Shades who control trollocks - bipedal monsters made of variety of animal body parts.

That's the basics. Enjoy.

Mike

Must admit to quite enjoying Cowboy Bepop on Netflix. I have no expectations having not seen or had any interest in the anime genre but this is good fun to watch.

it seems that the fanboys and anyone who watched the anime series hate it and people like you and me who know nothing about it seems to enjoy it.
