It annoys me (more than a little) what MSFT have done to Windows Mobile. I was tidying up my office today and getting rid of some tech stuff I no longer need and was reunited with my old Lumia 925. I liked Windows mobile but it has been systematically wrecked by MSFT in the last 24 months.

Speaking of which, anyone know if there would be any point in getting a smashed screen replaced on a Lumia 735? One phone repair shop said $200 although she didn't seem to have any idea about what phone it was. If it is that much then it's not worth doing. Worth it for a $1000+ device, but not really worth spending $200 on repairing one that cost under $300 2 years ago. Better off putting that towards a new phone I guess.

The clunky software at the PaknSave self checkouts. For example if using Eftpos you will hear 'processing now' before your pin has been entered & again after the pin has been entered. I can't remember the exact messages but screens and audio messages repeat themselves. Then you can get up to 3 pieces of paper. The actual receipt, the fuel offer, & sometimes another piece of paper with some other offer. All in all I find the PaknSave software far more irritating than what Countdown uses. At Countdown it all seems more intuitive and user friendly, plus you only get one piece of paper at the receipt stage.

New world is the best and quickest , you only have to tap the screen twice to finish your purchase, once to finish and bring up how to pay , once for eftpos sale, wait for accepted on machine and leave .

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Going to fix my mouse and discovering that - despite having lots of Torx bits - I still do not have one small enough to undo the bolts...

I have down to T6 and it looks like I need a 4. Off to the shops tomorrow - to find that Mitre 10 do not have one that small and have to order it...

I find the countdown software more annoying. The voice say "please enter your onecard number or press skip" yet it won't let you press skip until it finishes playing the audio. Did they use a computer that is so old that it doesn't have a OS that supports multiple processor threads?

There are some courteous drivers, and I try to be one of them where I can by letting people in, but they tend to be far and few between. But yes you are right they don't work where there is a dominant traffic flow. Which is odd that councils choose to install them on their main roads. But as a result you do often good big build ups of traffic at the roundabouts. Lower HUtt is one of the worst, I cringe everytime I have to drive though that apart of Wellington, because there will often be at least one close shave. But guessing these roundabouts are cheaper to maintain and total cost over a long period is less.

I also slow or pause to create a gap to give other vehicles a chance to enter the traffic flow and often get agro from the discourteous driver behind for doing so, which I simply ignore. I've found you can't rely on the people behind to obey the intersection blocking rule so I'll usually be generous with space on the other side of the intersection before making my way across.

As for roundabouts with dominant flows, it's a shame that the LTSA (it was that long ago) and local road controlling authorities didn't take up my suggestion for these of hybrid controlled intersections which were a straight roundabout for most of the time with signals to override the dominant flow at peak times. Unfortunately they are followers not innovators - it has to have been done somewhere else before they'll try it - and that place is usually Australia.

They do have roundabouts with traffic light override. Greville rd and Queensown rd motorway interchanges both in Auckland have this.

Daylight Savings Time. In Europe it seemed to make sense. Gorgeous summer evenings with sunsets that lingered until 10 pm. Here it just annoys me. I don't see a significant difference in daylight hours, but jumping the clock around disorients me and I can't get used to it. The time just feels wrong and I keep thinking it is an hour earlier or later or whatever. By the time I finally adjust to it, the clock jumps again. Just leave it alone and get used to the seasonal changes.

It seems fairly pointless.

Here it is dark in midwinter by 1730 - that is about 90 minutes later than the SE of England from memory. In midsummer it seems to stay light pretty much until around the same time.

If we left the clocks on Summertime all year, it would be dark in winter at 1830 instead which seems better.

Maybe we can leave Auckland without it and the rest of the country where it can stay light until 9pm at night with daylight savings can enjoy it?

Trucks (big ones) on auckland motorway in the right hand land during peak hour traffic. It takes them so long to get up speed that it creates big gaps in front of them while still slowing everything down behind them.

Also people that drive 90 - 95 in the right hand line with big gaps in front of them but a snot load of cars behind them.

Oh and people in the right lane that go over 2 other lanes to make their exit in the last 100 meters.

Depends what's on offer. I've no problem at all paying twice as much if it's twice as good and relieves the Stalinist monotony.

I was in Nth Queensland recently. Supermarket in a small small town, Marian. It had a great variety, awesome stuff. Big too. Small town but many outlining areas would shop there. They had more variety and managed that. But they had room, many supermarkets here they can't expand by 50% space wise

Depends what's on offer. I've no problem at all paying twice as much if it's twice as good and relieves the Stalinist monotony.

Is there enough people who are willing to cover the overheads though? If you are in Auckland could see it happening but not elsewhere.

Might be better off instead of a supermarket just a massive distribution centre with online selling portal?
