Then again, TSB still charges a transaction fee for internet payments. Sooo...

It's also worth remembering that just because a payment is sent to a bank during the day, it doesn't mean it will?instantly be available as cleared funds to the end party.

I think this is the point of the new system I linked to in the original post. I have done several transfers between accounts at different banks and the funds have cleared and been available within a few hours.

I always find this backwards, because of you fax them to do it manually, then it is free. Surely it is cheaper for you to do it online, than for them to do it manually.

Some banks like the BNZ charge an monthly online banking fee still. I think it is $5 per month with the bnz. I decided to not get online banking for my account with them, so each month I just phone them to get the balance, which doesn't take any longer for me, but costs them in terms of the cellphone call and staff time. Totally backwards.
