@ the OP, ever thought the Police vehicle was doing a "stealth" approach to a reported crime and srirens etc would have alerted the criminals?

And yes you would have deserved a ticket if caught, the legislation is clear as to maximum allowable speeds.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Was following another vehicle travelling above the legally posted speed (it may or maynot have been a Police vehicle)

What's the OP really wanting us to say... Two wrongs make a right?
Should we justify the OPs explanation or assumptions?

Me I'd rather wish you all a safe time on the roads for 2013. Focussing on you improving your own road awareness and driver skills. Worrying about yourself will make roads/driving safer.....worrying about the other folk won't.

Land Transport (Road User) Rule 2004:

1.8 General exceptions

(3) A person is not in breach of this rule if that person proves that the act or omission complained of-

(b) in the case of an act or omission done by an enforcement officer or a parking warden, was necessary in the execution of the person's duty.

5.1 Drivers must not exceed speed limits

(3 )A driver who drives at a speed exceeding the applicable speed limit is not in breach of subclause (1) if the driver proves that, at the time the vehicle was being driven,-

(a) the vehicle was being used by an enforcement officer engaged on urgent duty and compliance with the speed limit would be likely to prevent the execution of the officer's duty

Generally yes. Circumstances dictate necessity - as pointed out by KiwiNZ, a silent approach to whatever may have been necessary. This is often especially so when people are threatening suicide.

I can spot them a mile off.... extra antenna, steel wheels, lights on the dash and in the rear window.....

I suspect you saw a plainclothes car then ;) (@Dratsab or someone can confirm the terminology)

Also - aforementioned steel rims are always filthy with brake dust.

Semantics - the OP means an unmarked patrol vehicle. If it was a vehicle being used by an undercover operative qwerty7 wouldn't have known and wouldn't have created this post. @mjb - cars don't wear clothes ;-)

kyhwana2: They will call in speed camera flashes to comms if they are on their way to a job, however, they have to be on the way to a job that is a high priority.

They should call in every time the go past a speed camera. Infra-red flash units are used now so the "flash" is not detectable in our visual range.

Your speedo wasnt perfect and it was going faster than you.

X + y = 63 when x and y are both unknown

Obviously the OP doesn't have a certified speedo or any authority to exceed the speed limit, but that's not the point of his post.

take a normal human being - not one so tarnished with crim records that they were rejected at application to police, not one so genius that they're offered scholarships to be nasa scientist and never thought about joining police,

but a normal humans, who grew up watching friends do drugs, violence on PS3, hops into some fast cars driven by drunk friends, and can't wait for F1 and topgear to be screened ....

put them through between 0 - 15 years of "training"

give all of them a badge

give some lots of money, give some tasers

give some the keys to a holden VE commodore

what do you think some of them do?

Of course, amongst the numerous unknowns, we have the grand assumption the vehicle was actually being driven by a "cop" (i.e. a sworn member of police) as opposed to a non-sworn member of police, or mechanic or some other such person.

What's with the anti cop rubbish often expressed in nz? Rather sick of it. I don't mind being stopped for breath testing. I don't mind a cop doing 60ish to a job, I don't mind them doing their job. If you do, there's two options. You have something to hide. Or, your one of those arrogant idiots who thinks they are above everyone else
