I've had a few Samsungs, Motorola, Panasonic (yes a Panasonic cell phone which was huge), Nokia, LG slide phones and even a blackberry.

All up maybe around 20-30 cellphones. It's not that I damaged them (still have a few sitting in my drawer looking brand new) its just there was always something better coming out. Now I am on the Samsung Note Phase! I was never rich, I just invested on the right phone wisely and sold them when the time was right. I've got the latest Samsung Note cellphone and absolutely love it!

About 7 comes to mind.
Had an Alcatel brick initially, bulky but quite rugged.

Now on an LG G2, I normally wear them down and replace after about three years

Iv'e owned 3 and I'm 18
First one was in 2010 was a Nokia 3G phone, ABC keypad and was on 2degrees when it was launched, it was a good phone but in 2012 wanted to move into a touch device
2012 I got the Vodafone Smart, was a terrible slow laggy thing and battery kept draining
in 2014 I purchased a Moto G 4G model and never had an issue since then, Will recommend to all looking for a budget high performing phone, though this waiting around for Lollipop is keeping me on my toes!

I stopped counting at 100 (A number of years back), and no I am not kidding, I bought back 12 from Singapore a few years ago because I couldn't decide which one I liked the most, sold the ones I didn't want and got a free phone out of it.

Highlights were my first, a Nokia 8110i on Bellsouth, before it was in the Matrix, and the N95, the Samsung Pixon, the first really smart touch screen phone, and the Galaxy S2, which was probably my favourite of all time. I have owned 3 current generation phones and stayed with the S5 when it was all said and done.

Unlikely I won't have the S6 unless it's rubbish on spec's. Never owned an iPhone (Proud) or a Note (Wondering wondering....).

Got my first in 1991 - a Panasonic.

Then various Nokias (probably 6 or so) until the iPhone 4 came out, then a 5 and now a 6 Plus.

You seem to be way ahead so far, but how much have you spent on cell phones to date? Do you sell on the old ones, and if yes, what percentage of the new price did you get? It just seems extraordinary to me.

I had an old Nokia up until about seven years ago when I went really flash and and got a Palm Treo with Windows Mobile, but I never knew how to drive it. I finally got with the program and got an iPhone 5s early last year, but that will probably see me out.

What do you do with 60 cell phones anyway? How much do people spend on their plans? OK there are some genuinely useful apps out there, and it is definitely nice to have access to data and your emails on the move, but how big a priority is that? Obviously very big to a business person I guess.

Taking the thread wildly off topic, when Adobe introduced the Creative Cloud subscription model, the furore from disgruntled users was neigh on cataclysmic. We did OK in NZ and Oz thanks to Ed Husic's war against US company price gouging, and then Scott Kelby won Photoshop only users the Photographer's deal which gives them an always up to date Photoshop and Lightroom for a mere US$10/month. That is such a bargain it is unreal, yet still people refused to take on a subscription.

I argued that those same people might be spending five times that for the cell phone plan, and goodness knows how many times for their Broadband and Sky subscription, but a lot of people still hung on to an increasingly out of date CS6 license. I pay just over NZ$53 a month for a full CC subscription, which gives me getting on for thirty world class graphics related applications. That cost US$50 for Adobe's American customers, so way to go Ed!

First one was an analog NMT phone, something like this:

Second one was after the GSM network opened in Norway. This monster:

Then I went through quite a lot of phones, partly because I had a job at a cellphone store. Got to test a lot of phones, this was my favourite phone at the time (1994). The Nokia 2110, it had the best reception of any of the GSM phones out at the time (and probably better than most that has come after)

Among other memorable phones was the Nokia "Matrix" phone, it was cool (with a slide out cover with mic), but it was the phone that really got me off Nokia. Partly because I had the (dubious) pleasure of trying to make WAP pages that would work with it, and the phone kept crashing.

So it was on to Ericsson and eventually Sony Ericsson phones. I remember I loved the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones, but then I got my first iPhone (the first released, had to be jailbroken and carrier "liberated" to use it in Norway). So when the iPhone stopped working (after hitting the floor and the screen not working) I had to go back to the Sony Walkman phone. Man was it a horrible experience.

Since the first iPhone I have only had iPhones as my phones, and I have had all the versions that have been coming out. Pretty happy customer. I got my first Android phone last year that I use for testing (A Samsung S4), and I must say its an OK phone, but I much prefer the iPhone.

Jase2985: my question is why have those that have owned 10+ owned so many? do you have a habit of damaging them or do you have to have the latest and greatest Iphone 6 then 6+ etc etc

im on my 5th.

Many were work phones. I always have two phones so I have one I use on the boat or at the beach etc. Some replaced quickly as they turned out to be rubbish (iPhone and Sony Ericcson spring to mind) some replaced purely because I wanted to. The rest replaced as it was time to do so.

I would hate to think how much money some people have spent on them. I have never owned a top of the line model, and the most ive spent on one is about $450.

by the company, :) there is a difference, yes you may own the company but they are still "work" phones

logo: Camera is an important consideration as my phone has effectively replaced my compact digital camera.

It saddens me when I see some of the dreadful phone camera photos posted on Facebook by people who don't own a proper camera because they think a phone camera is good enough. In many years' time a lot of those people are going to seriously regret not having taken any decent photos of their kids growing up.

In recent history I have replaced my iPhone every two years, but I will probably keep my current one for at least three years. The reality is that the camera is useless, most of the apps are buggy and the overall quality of the product is poor relative to its price point. When I was young I used to feel the need to have the latest and greatest phone, but these days I'd rather spend the money on a better quality product such as hifi or photographic equipment.

I don't go out and get stuff all the time .. I can count mine

1997 a Ericsson at Ben Rumble $25 phone I think.
1999 2yr or 3yr contract $30 200mins offpeak Vodafone Nokia 5110. $0.
2000 Nokia 6210 from HK (about $500). $500.
2000 later in the year I sold the Nokia and got a Sony Z3? $500 but broke even with the Nokia. Therefore $0.
2005/06 I got a Motorola flip phone but didn't like it, sold it soon after. Got back a used 6210. $350.
2009 Nokia E75 $550.
2011 lost the E75 and got a C6-01 still my admin phone. $300.
2013 got a LG E975 still the same primary phone today (bought one year out and a few months from the LG2), otherwords $500 imported.
