Is it just me or have these beliefs been significantly accelerated through the Covid and vaccine era?  I feel like that has just triggered a whole bunch of disenfranchised people.  Perhaps they were always there, just needed a rabbit hole to go down?

Its not just the rabbit hole, its the echo chamber the internet has built for them.

I don't mock these folk. This is in many cases linked to mental illness. There is also bad actors exploiting them, eg Donald Trump.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Before covid NZ had many followers of Alex Jones and American UN conspiracies. Covid gave them something local in common. Voices For Freedom brings all that together locally with some new elements and new sources of funding to keep it all going and apparently growing.

Yup. I consider the majority of these people to be vulnerable and exploited. Many of these people find their way to religion, but if they aren't inclined to go that way, then they end up with these groups who often have charismatic or popular 'leaders'. It's surprisingly easy to become isolated even in this highly connected world, and feel like your problems are yours to deal with on your own.  I know of one of this 'leaders' who used to go to AA and NA meetings, and then 'befriend' people after the meetings. That kind of evil needs to be stamped out. Unfortunately, these people are extremely effective at finding the 'easily led' in our populations, people looking for some direction.  The harder you criticize them, the happier the leaders become (and the more alienated you make the victim), knowing, they can use that criticism to draw the person further into the 'nurturing' arms of the group, who play on their emotions and insecurities. Brian Tamaki is the most evil of the ones I know in NZ, he is both exploiting people on conspiracy AND religion, whist getting rich doing it. Interestingly the earlier days of AMWAY were particularly bad too. It's still a scam, but it's been forced into the light and has been forced to change it's tactics someway. I recall having to talk my mum out of that system as a very young teenager.

just to poke the bear here, the same thing with many of the greenie groups.

the standard tactic of gather your sheep, make a lot of noise to play politics, so govts make changes to keep you quiet. once that goal is done the flock is turned onto the next target. all the information is passed down through the ranks. they won't talk outside of their group especially to anyone who actually knows the subject. very easy targets to exploit and convert.

the methods and tactics used by a lot of grennie groups and conspiracy groups is exactly the same. because those people are susceptible to those tactics, they get exploited by conspiracy groups as well. to make matters worse is sometimes greenie groups messages are in fact conspiracy theory's.  so they have members believing in nonsense well before the conspiracy groups turn up.

In my experience most Greens supporters are anything but easily led. Usually the exact opposite is true. Even when I don't agree with them I usually find them committed, intelligent, passionate and well-informed. A few may also be extremists, but that is true of any group.

pretty much anything.

plenty of herbicides made by big corporates.  recent history of course is hysteria over roundup, cancer causing kills insects etc, but nothing done on the nasty stuff they mix with sprays that kills insects like flyspray. nicotinoids where the proof was a badly done study discredited by everyone while all the other studies where "paid for by the evil big corporate". bio fuel, until the science guys pointed out we don't have enough land to grow bio fuel for even half the fleet and you would have no where to live or be able to grow food. even the EV's, still waiting for those trucks and planes that where "available" years ago.

the banning of herbicides in eu is a classic. lots of noise based on bad information voiced by sheep playing the political game at election time.

even the science guys i talk to with hate it, because it takes away the funding they need to find the truth and they end up wasting time and resources disproving the BS.

then there is the recruitment tactics, steering them away from sources of truth, surrounding them with like minded people so they can only hear the message they want them to. the same training practices, getting them used to to talking to people who don't want to listen.  getting hooks into the media so run their BS stories. so many magazines and newspapers that print fake information. not to mention social media where they can delete any non-believers.

its greenie central here and also conspiracy central as well. just happened to be one of the lowest vaccinated towns in nz during covid. call it a simple observation.

but yes there is good ones who know what they are talking about, but even they get drowned out by the masses of sheep talking nonsense, which makes it hard for the greenie science guys to be heard.

I know quite a few people who want "Natural" cures etc etc etc, however they are NOT greenies. They still want to drive their old crap car that burns oil, are anti public transport, etc etc.

These are generally people who are not particularly bright or well-informed. Like those who object to 'chemicals' but have no idea what they are talking about. However, as you say, they are not greenies or anything close. They are just foolish people reacting to labels they don't understand.
