I would recommend getting a USB 3.0 device. Whats the point in buying old technology? It may be cheaper to go with 2.0, so if thats what you're looking for, then go with it, but once you upgrade your computer to USB 3.0, you won't be able to get those sweet speeds that it's capable of..
If I could, I would rather stretch an extra $20-30 to get USB 3.0.
If you're not planning on carrying it round with you often, and can put up with the less convenience of having a mains-powered external drive, you can get a lot more storage for your money.
Compare these two seagate drives at pbtech, the 1TB 2.5", usbpowered is $137 inc GST and the 2TB 3.5", mains powered is only $11 more at $148 inc GST.
