Shadowfoot:

People who pass you (two lanes going in your direction) then pull in front of you, impacting cruise control even though the other lane is empty.

Which lane are you In?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

TV One and its anal self-important 19th-century notion of On Demand viewing. I rarely want to watch any of its backward ad-ridden programming but Q&A is a rare exception, probably because it is made with public money. I was particularly interested to see how Jacinda Ardern would present herself but unfortunately I missed the beginning of the programme so I decided to watch it on-line, only to be confronted with a very annoying sign-up barrier. I don't want to become a member for life. I don't want to have my email stuffed with youth-obsessed trendy crap that doesn't interest me. I don't want to be TV One's bitch. I just want to see a single bloody programme that has already been publicly broadcast, for christsake. Since I had no choice I did sign up, but I got my revenge by signing up with a rude name and a Mailinator email address. I recommend everyone do the same. If their data collection gets diluted enough with useless phony information maybe they will finally get the message and quit being so precious about content that has already been paid for with our taxes.

GZ is not a purely technical forum I would not say. Certainly it's biased that way, but not exclusively.

Isn’t that why we call it GEEKzone?

True, geeks have other interests, but if BBCode is too hard for you... geek up?

Or maybe they take the irritation one step further and force you to give a real email by making you click one of those infernal ‘confirmation’ links sent to the email address you supply 🙄

Actually they do, but once you finish the sign-up you can view the programme anyway. I guess all the good programmers have other jobs.

I was in the left lane. Cruise control set to 100km/h.

If this is "obsolete" then why is it part of the default template?!

I think there is more than enough conversations on here of a non-IT related type to reasonably posit that it is no longer (if it once was) a purely IT-professional oriented site.

Mormons, knocking on my door after I just got home from work. It's been a while since that's happened (the area I moved from was lousy with them) and in a weird way I almost admire their tenacity, however driven by naivety it may be. But it's just such a waste of time, ya know? They always have the same script. "We'refromthechurchofjesuschristofthelatterdaysaintsandwe'regettingtoknoweveryoneintheareahowareyou?"

*oh man, I thought it was going to be kids selling chocolate* "hi"

"do you have any particular religion of your own?" *none of your business/the flying spaghetti monster/batman* "No."

"so you don't believe in god?" *no god you've ever heard of* "No."

*any reason why not?" *hmmm... do I need to justify myself to you?* "There's just no reason for me to believe in god. No compelling reason."

"oh interesting" *isn't it just? Hey I recognise this script, I know where it goes from here. I'm not going to get into a theological discussion about why I don't believe that a book is purported to be the word of god despite being written by many different people over many years with as many translations, mistranslations, contradictions and versions which people will pick and choose from according to their own needs and wants while insisting everything in the bible is literal rather than a collection of morality tales. Couldn't the all powerful just make one version? What's god done for me lately? Cancer? I mean, not me personally but cancer in general, what's that about?  No I don't want your card, I'm not going to read it anyway. Let's just wrap this up politely*

Look, Mormons go around proxy baptising everyone who dies anyway. Why not just leave me alone while I'm alive, huh?

Windows defender and its occasional severe impact on performance.

I've noticed on the odd occasion that my windows 10 seems to freeze up or run way more slowly than it should -- usually during high levels of disk activity.

Figured it out, its windows defender and realtime scanning . Switch it off (it only switches off temporarily) and speed increases exponentially.
