The only evidence we have that's "most likely" is because that's all we've observed. Black swans are real.

Anyway, we're not so far from creating self-replicating AI technology that's going to inevitably work out that we're it's biggest threat. Our best hope if we encounter alien "life" before we expire as a species is that it might enjoy keeping some of us as pets or zoo exhibits. If that life is organic, we'll probably be food - doomed unless they run a quota management system on the resource.

Don't bother travelling anywhere. Most of the visual of the stars/planets you see in the sky are so old that they probably no longer exist.

But there are many more we are yet to see. As time progresses the night sky will fill with more and more twinkling little lights as the Universe unfolds in the eyes for those that are here.

i think unless something is less than 1000 light years (maybe 10,000 light years) near, you can't assume they are any good.

a 0.01% change in CO2 is making you want to leave this planet, heck those other planets may not be any good if they don't fall into the goldilocks zone for humans.

The chances of a planet that is in a Goldilocks zone that is reachable by mankind is very very very low and more than likely zero. The chances of a planet reachable by mankind that could be adapted is very very low.

I think we need a bigger key. Efficient solar will certainly help, and a hundred years ago it might have fixed things, but what we need now is consensus at every level of society about the urgency and immediacy of the problem. If nay-sayers and vested interests could be swept aside, and people could be made to accept that things they used to take for granted were no longer a viable option, and international resources could be concentrated, and taxpayers could be persuaded to finance it all, then it could certainly be solved. But not at the rate we are going.

A common sense approach, that's the flaw. I'm up for that 100% but NIMBY, that's the attitude. I will but it will cost me, but I'm only one it wont matter

Alot of that comes from the lie that middle class older generation were told, You went to college, got married, had kids, worked your ass off, saved for retirement, got houses/investment portfolio all in the promise than when you turned 65 it was one big holiday of travel/shopping/hobbies from there on out. Now they are being asked to give most of that up because of CC, I think that's where such a strong denial comes from for some

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

I don't follow that. You feel that everyone or most who are not poor are against CC as that might affect them? Id suggest those that can pay, will, to see a result.

Remember CC doesnt mean cancel all carbon use. We need greenhouse gases to survive, we just need to reduce per capita what we use, some of that is reduction some is sequestering

And the beauty of earth-based solar is that, no matter how much you consume, it's never more than what would have been absorbed by the environment.

I suspect the problem will go the other way, however. If energy is used to e.g. build a physical structure, effectively that energy/heat will be removed from the environment until the building is decomposed. In which case global cooling is the outcome.

I raved about solar here, for every house, what an impact. But as I was told, the residential solar gain is VERY minimal. FAR more is used ny commercial and industrial.

Maybe people who were born more than 40 years ago can remember the threat of death in a nuclear war, nuclear winter, impending ice age, acid rain, ozone depletion, lead poisoning, mercury poisoning, AIDS, Ebola, etc. And therefore might question the apocalyptic headlines being touted by those with very little grasp of the facts.
An Australian politician has suggested that because Australian youth was so exercised last week about climate change that a good start would be to cancel schoolies week this year thereby saving all the unnecessary travel and wanton consumerism.

I agree fully. MANY of us are concerned. Kids, adults, older adults. The world isn't based on Trumpism, take him as a glitch. The older are perhaps wiser, and can see the birth, youth, and adult versions of Climate Change effects. Maybe kids see CC as a cult to protest to, but many of us see it for what it is. The funny thing is there was a real threat of nuclear war and mass action was taken to walk ourselves back from the edge and we almost did a number of times on purpose and by accident

Acid rain was walked back with the clean air act mainly but rain is still more acidic than it was causing issues but we are just now starting to see signs of recovery in hard hit areas.

Lead and Mercury is simple, They are neurotoxic so we stopped putting lead in paint! Kids in the US have gone from 7.5% having concerning levels of lead in their blood in 1990's to under 1% today

AIDS has killed 35 million people world wide and only by sustained effort globally been walked back from certain death to somewhat manageable but is still a crisis in many parts of the world today.

Ebola again has only been halted from mass spread by concerted global efforts to stop it's spread during outbreaks AND we now have treatment protocols

Ozone hole was fixed with the banning of CFC's and took 20+ years to heal

Finally the impending ice age was early CC warnings, Pretty much everything you've listed was only solved by real effort and change. This attitude is kinda my point from a few pages back, Until CC is messing up a persons life directly it wont be taken seriously, We collectively are waiting for more "evidence" before taking action, hoping privately that there is still a fix on the table

The fact is the older you are the less likely you are to believe in CC. If your under 45 in the USA and republican 50% of you say CC is a serious issue, 45+ is 26%. In Europe only 27% 65+ say that CC is man made compared with 46% in the 18-34 bracket. So the majority of older folk being targeted for votes dont think it's real or don't think it's caused by humans, combine this with aging populations and until it's undeniable actual change to alter CC impact will be political suicide

The Universe is made of the same stuff. Exo planets will be like Earth, the life will vary due to the environment there thats all. We have life in boiling sulpher water. That lot probably wont get 5G but life does have a wide range. They feel there may be life in Venus's atmosphere which at certain levels supports water in liquid form. In an eco planet sort close to Earth, it shook be relatively similar. Same source of the building blocks of life. Ours came from comets. Comets go everywhere.
