Adding to this - computer monitors and other devices that signal over HDMI that they are an audio device. When they don't have any speakers or other means of reproducing audio.

Good straight road, sunny weather, and willing to risk death. Must have been exceptionally confident in the acceleration capability of their car. The wide angle camera makes things look further away than reality.

So I deeply dislike the term and wish people wouldn't use it. I would say it sets back the AGW interests backwards every time it is used.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can make that connection. How can anyone possibly put the holocaust and climate change in the same box? They are not even on the same planet in terms of sheer evil and ugliness. I can understand people not liking the term 'denier' and I will try to avoid it in future. Terms like that come about as a kind of shorthand. It is easier to use a word rather than several sentences every time you want to refer to something, but it can also become misleading and emotive. I will try to look for something better in the future.

To return to the subject, the things I have seen and heard and read over time have persuaded me that climate change is real and that it is almost certainly being exacerbated by human activity. However, I am not a scientist. I have not spent years studying the climate. I am not qualified to pass my own judgement on the matter, so I have to listen to the acknowledged experts and weigh what they say. When climate change sceptics question the data, and when I take the trouble to investigate their connections, I often find they are funded or supported in one way or another by fossil fuel interests. This makes me sceptical of the sceptics, apart from anything else. Vested interests generally don't make impartial observations.

I get annoyed by the nay-sayers. I get a feeling sometimes that some people just don't want to have to give up any of their comforts and so they seize on arguments that let them keep doing things the same way they are used to, regardless of the damage that may be doing. If a hundred experts say one thing, and 10 say something else, why go with the 10 just because what they say is what you want to hear? Logic tells me the hundred are more likely to be right, and if they are, the consequences of doing nothing will be dire. Does it not make sense to err on the side of caution?

Anyway, that is my argument. I am happy to hear others, but if I discover they are funded by oil company interests I am not likely to take them very seriously.

They're clearly not in the same box but they are associated because the two commonly contexts for the word 'denier' are Holocaust and climate change. Add to that there's a fair amount of nastiness out there from both sides of the AGW argument which makes it easier to jump to conclusions about what people are thinking when they use terms. 

As far as I'm concerned it's just name-calling and should be avoided. People who are skeptical should be called skeptics.

While reading NZ Herald via ipad app  - clicking the link to a related story at the bottom of an article, and being taken to a completely different article to the one I clicked on.

I just ran into a news site that's not content with letting me read the news. Instead, it insists on reading it to me (aloud), with no option to prevent it. Needless to say, I closed the site immediately.

Was it from one of those legacy TV broadcaster types? They seem to think the only way people can process news is to have an ad play, then have it slowly read out to them while pictures of vaguely related things pass by on the screen, before someone in a studio gives their opinion on it, and then 2 more ad's play.

Ive usually read enough of the article with the exact words that they are reading to know its boring and not worth going further before the end of the first ad has played.
