Further to the above: Have watched another episopde of Sugar on Apple TV+

While we are enjoying it, the camera work can be quite jarring - it's like some of it was shot on a phone. Hi Resolution, very shaky and weird angles. Then it cuts to cinema-like standard cinematography, which is smooth and well-balanced. It makes it hard to watch at times.

Another Apple TV+ show we have just started really getting into is Palm Royale
Set in Palm Springs, in the late 1960's it's a tale of opulence and intrigue at a private club and it's surrounds as the high society types try to out manouevre each other to stay in power and hold sway over the rabble.
Stars Kirsten Wiig, Laura Dern, Ricky Martin and others.
It's quite enjoyable, although at times a little slow.

The Stand (2020) - Having seen the 1994 miniseries as a teenager and quite enjoying it, then reading the novel as an adult; I thought I'd give the 2020 version a watch (despite the fairly poor reviews). Couldn't get to the end of ep 3 (of 9). They took a linear story with buildup, tension, and mystery; and decided to tell it in a nonlinear fashion jumping back and forward all over the place. I honestly don't know if I would have had any idea what was going on if I wasn't already familiar with the source material.

And the whole buildup and unfolding of the pandemic was virtually non-existent. This was a quarter of the novel, and pretty important to the world building; but was just glossed over.

Will not be finishing this, and can't recommend to anyone. Read the book or, if you're not a big reader, watch the 1994 version (it looks pretty low budget and dated by modern standards, but is infinitely better than the 2020 mess).

3/10 for the bit that I saw.

I am enjoying a few things via Apple TV+ right now.

They seem to be spending a lot on talent and production, so that's a positive in my eyes.

Sugar (as mentioned above a couple of times) is one I am hooked on, although it's taken a weird twist

Loot - it's a fun, switch your brain off comedy

about a Billionaire divorcee who finds out she has a charitable organisation and gets fully involved

Palm Royale - mentioned that before - It's a fun watch, in the same way any dramedy is fun to watch

The Big Door Prize - it's back and the weird machine is in overdrive.

Inside Man - Netflix - 8/10

Quirky 4 episode thriller starring Stanley Tucci and David Tennant almost in the Cohen brothers vein. Well worth a watch.

I mean - seriously? A blue-headed alien!? Ridiculous way to end an episode and a really good way to put your core audience off immediately

Currently half-way through the four episodes of Brit drama The Night Caller on TVNZ+. Starring Robert Glenister and Sean Pertwee. A bit different and some may find it a little slow but we think it’s great.

(Something a bit confusing about this: There’s a show with the same name and four episodes on IMDb that sounds similar but it’s a doco and not this one. On IMDb this one is called Black Cab.)

I have been watching My Mum Your Dad and it's the greatest reality TV show since The Bachelor.

Trinity is such a hit with the ladies, but poor Chris is getting forgotten. I am a bit upset about Elishevah flirting with all those men immediately before telling Nic that she fancies him. If only she knew that he forgot Juanita's name immediately after he had a date with her. Also, Jacks needs to get over herself and stop playing the victim all the time.

I see that the participants for the next Married at First Sight NZ have just been announced, and you have no idea how excited I am!

Parasyte : the Grey . Netflix.
I watched 4 episodes , then gave up . Starts off well, then its downhill from there .
When a part human can cut the top off a car , you know its getting too silly .

Turning Point : the Bomb & the Cold War . Netflix
Excellent Doco series. Its more about the politics of the Cold war than the bomb .
10/10

Clarkson's Farm S3 just released on Amazon Prime. Still as good as ever.

Just finished watching S3. Seems real or maybe it’s highly scripted - I don’t know - but just the most brilliant feel-good show. Funny, sad and genuinely interesting - it’s the best thing I have seen for a long time and I’m sorry the season has ended.

There’s a part in E6 where he’s trying to individually weigh a herd of juvenile goats. I won’t say any more but imo it’s absolutely hilarious - haven’t laughed so much at TV in years.

Finished Baby Reindeer.  Phenomenal acting by the two leads, especially Jessica who plays Martha. Although episodes are only half an hour, they’re so dense it feels like it’s a lot longer.

Currently watching the last season of Star Trek Discovery.

It is so weak. The acting, the story. Compared to previous seasons this one is so cringey.

3/10.

That's saying a lot as Discovery has been awful since the start

When I start watching a series I really try to see it through to the end, but I stopped watching Sugar when it got weird. I have girly tastes when it comes to TV, so I would not have watched six episodes of it if I'd known it was going to morph into sci-fi territory.

I am really enjoying the second season of The Big Door Prize, and I'm looking forward to the new seasons of Trying and Acapulco.

The other thing I'm enjoying at the moment is High Country on ThreeNow. Victoria produces some really good dramas.
