Comgateway already offer a repack service, I suspect others may well do also. US$7 to repack or US$5 for regular (Prime) customers.

What are they like compared to Youshop or shipito?

From what I have seen so far, slightly more expensive for small parcels ($5 to $10) but similar around the 7kg mark and up. Much faster processing on parcels and real tracking via DHL. I swapped from Shipito to Comgateway but I cant remember why sorry.

berry: Arrrgggg, volumetric weight sucks! my 2.3kg turned into 5. something kg! Which has doubled the cost. If NZ post is looking to improve this service that would be one area they could try and improve on.  my $60 postage is probably still worth it as the items I am getting were not eligible for shipping to NZ, but adds a lot to the cost!

To be fair they're pretty clear about volumetric weight. The uncertainty is mostly around packaging, with many vendors using boxes far larger than is required. Amazon has been pretty good so far, but it would be nice to be able to say "hey put this in the smallest possible box please".

You're right - It's the seller rather than YouShop - I will wait and see if I've paid for a lot of air or not! You'd think it would be in the sellers interest to use smaller boxes - but I guess when they are sending out in bulk it might cost more to find the right size box than the difference in postage.

Interesting. Got this email from NZ Post after a Live Chat session. This was following my tracking number not being released for a while.

Thank you for contacting our customer services team regarding your YouShop.

I am pleased to advise that your item has been scanned as being in New Zealand under the tracking number CTxxxxxxxxxNZ, unfortunately the item was held by Customs which caused our system not to update and not send email notification.

We are working on ensuring that a better notification indicator can be done to show when an item has in fact already be in New Zealand. At this point, your item has been released by Customs and I believe that the item should be delivered either on Saturday or Monday at the latest.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience that has been caused.

Regards,

Vili Pedro | Customer Service Representative
New Zealand Post Customer Services

It appears that sometimes if your item is held up by Customs to pay duty/GST, your tracking number will take a while to get to you... Interesting

Out of all the problems that you can have importing using YouShop, surely this would have to be the worst of the lot.

If you ordered from Amazon (say) and Amazon have a proof of delivery, then where does liability lie? You can't exactly or easily claim non-delivery via your Credit Card company since Amazon can prove delivery. What is YouShop's policy on items that have a proof of delivery to them which they cannot locate or identify as yours?

No, wait ..
Shipped. FFS YouShop get your act together.

And if you can ship one of my parcels why wasn't the other one also shipped at the same time,

I'm in the middle of my first and last YouShop transaction.

My parcel arrived at the YouShop warehouse on December 1 and I immediately paid for shipping (within a couple of hours of receiving notification).

I just received an email saying my parcel was dispatched to New Zealand on December 6 at 6:37 PM.

Five days (or four business days if they don't operate 7 days/week) for them to process it is far too long.

They estimate it will take 5-7 days to arrive in their Auckland mail centre, then I'd guess another 3 business days before it arrives in Christchurch.

Next time I need to use a service like this I'll try someone else. PreZoom, perhaps?

In addition to the slow service from YouShop, there were a few other factors outside their control that have made this an exercise in frustration:

1. It took the seller five days to ship my order (Shoebuy.com).
2. It took another nine friggin' days for my order to reach the YouShop warehouse via UPS Ground Shipping!
3. My parcel weighed less than 500g (a pair of insoles) but had a volumetric weight of 1.5kg.
4. With all these shipping delays, it could be a total of 29 days before I receive my parcel!

I could have had my parcel shipped direct from the seller to New Zealand, but they only offer FedEx, which is expensive. I figured I'd give YouShop a try, to save a significant amount on shipping costs. Now I'm questioning whether it's worth it, if it's going to take so long.

Auckland to your major city will be overnight. I have used YouShop extensively.

It's relatively cheap. They are well within the "targets" that they promise (which is basically a long time). They don't promise speed and I think that it's ok even though slightly sluggish.

Also remember that this isn't a fully launched service yet so I'm sure they will take feedback on board.

I signed up to PreZoom before YouShop. PreZoom might only be $1-3 more but the service is top notch and got here fast. Recommended.

I might use YouShop for items I don't mind waiting for. If I want service I'd use PreZoom.

Well I think it has some teething problems. I paid for my package on Dec 4 and just receivied an email saying the package has left the Youshop facility and is en route to Auckland, expecting to arrive from 5-7 days.

There should be no customs on it so perhaps I will see it in about 8-9 days?

Sure, youpost isn't super fast, but some of you guys need to chill a bit. If you want a super fast service, pay for a super fast service, otherwise stop your moaning unless they lose your package or don't meet their SLA.

Fair comment. People are getting things that they otherwise couldn't or would use other services that at the end would take about the same time as YouShop (or cost more if they used courier for forwarding)...

Just to let people know about my experience with youshop

their email notification service is like delayed for 4 days at least
I received my first shipment this Monday, but nzpost sent me an email yesterday telling me the item is delivered yesterday.
Just to let you know about the delayed notification issue.

+ 1. And right or wrong, I take some comfort from the fact that YouShop is part of NZ Post, which is owned by the NZ government.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
