My wife and I have started watching Shrinking on Apple TV+.

I say we've started watching it...we're now halfway through season 2.

It's about a shrink who loses his wife and somewhat goes off the rails and has help from friends, neighbours and family to raise his daughter as well as trying unusual methods to treat his patients.

It's a comedy, despite how bleak I made it sound.

It's very, very good. I'd give it a 9/10

Harrison Ford is brilliant as a cantankerous old fart.

I am generally not a fan of American TV, but I am quite enjoying Shrinking.

The other thing I'm really into at the moment is Ridley on ThreeNow. It's a solid recommendation for anyone who likes British police drama.

crackrdbycracku: House of Cards.

Inspired by the British series from the 80's but with Kevin Spacey.

Amazing.

Anything more would be a spoiler.

I started watching this when it came out in 2013,

but a few seasons in Trump got elected and House of Cards started to look like a kindergarten play next to real life, and the interest waned....

Succession - 7/10 (Neon)

Late to the game, I started watching this earlier this year.  I was never sure if I was actually enjoying it, as all of the characters are appalling people, but I'm a completist so I persevered.  But as I got into the later seasons I found myself having to slow down and take it in smaller doses.  The parallels with real-life US politics were triggering for me, and I needed to regulate for my own mental wellbeing.  I finished it off over the weekend.  I'm glad I finished it (tick!) but I do feel slightly traumatised by the whole experience (but not as traumatised as I am by the real life inspiration behind it).

I realised I composed a post in my head which I never put out into the world...

Rivals - 9.5/10 (Disney+/Star)

This is an adaptation of a book by Jilly Cooper.  I've never read her books, it's not really a genre I go in for.  But I absolutely devoured this series (8 episodes) while I was sick last week.  Closest I've ever come to a literal binge-watch.

The cast and characters are fantastic.  Everyone does a superb job but David Tennant chews every scene as Lord Tony Baddingham, the owner of a TV studio in the Cotswolds.  His rival (roll credits!) is played by Alex Hassell - Rupert Campbell-Black MP.  Rupert is a "cad of the first order" with women falling at his feet.  They are supported by an amazing supporting cast, and the whole show feels very rich and juicy.  There's lots of sex and shenanigans, made all the more interesting for its setting (the 80s) and the soundtrack of banging tunes.  I'd describe it as a bit like Bridgerton, but without the Regency setting.

Apparently it's only the first half of the book, so I can't wait for another season.

The Diplomat Netflix Season 2 - 8/10 just as good as season one.

In the midst of an international crisis, Kate Wyler, a career diplomat, lands in a high-profile job for which she is not suited, with tectonic implications for her marriage and her political future.

Drama - Spy - Intrigue - Small amount of romance - humour. Just good old British good stuff. Up there with Slow Horses.

Squid Game.

I just don't get the hype.

The acting is terrible. The stories are pretty far fetched and whole thing feels low budget and generally pretty terrible.

I'm also watching The Day of the Jackal on TVNZ+. 7/10.

Watching this too, bingeing actually. At least an 8/10 from me.

Also the latest episodes of Yellowstone on Neon - can’t get enough of that either.

Plus free test cricket on TVNZ+ - great to see.

One of the best shows I've seen in a while, but quite different to the book and the movie.  We are up to E7 having tried to time starting to watch it so we'd get to E10 as it was released. I'm still only going to give it an 8/10 because it is inconsistent. The lead character is portrayed as having emotions and loving his Spanish wife, but something happens in E7 that is pure cold blooded psycho.  We _really_ didn't see that coming!

Brilliant series. 7-8/10. Eddie Redmayne at just below his best only because it is a series and not a movie.

Just watched the finale of Yellowstone. It’s one of my most favourite TV shows ever. Great last episode.

The music is a big part of what I like about the show. When I was young I didn’t like ‘Country & Western’ music at all. This has changed as I got older and I now really enjoy Country music. The soundtrack of Yellowstone has sealed this and I have been listening to the soundtrack album on Spotify. Love it.

Murder Mindfully [Netflix]  8/10.

A German Black comedy crime series  about a lawyer who is going nowhere in life until he goes to a life coach and with out trying takes over the local Crime family. I like a show where you are laughing at torture scenes. only 8 episodes so easy to binge.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
