When one of your favourite socks vanishes in the laundry.

You have favourite socks??? They're just a commodity to me.

Hell yeah.  Some are far more comfortable than others. Some stay up, others fall down.  Some have holes (and I should chuck those out but I always think I 'll get one more wear out of them), others don't.

Lordes completely *ghastly* cover of Phil Collins in the air tonight. I'd pay money to have it erased from my memory.

NZ Herald:

Lorde has performed a wonderful version of Phil Collins' 1891 famous synthpop song, 'In The Air Tonight' during BBC's Live Lounge session.

(wrong century reference by NZ Herald)

Oh dear...

Trying to figure out what went wrong there, my conclusion is "everything".

Kept waiting for her to get into the feeling of that song and find her power band... but nope... just felt flat.

Besides the obvious joke of singing her own name over and over, that was just “oh Lord!”

It's probably art, but to me it sounds like she has a speech impediment.

I know I'll get shot saying this as a Kiwi, but she is the most overrated singer I can recall. It's fashionable to like her, I have yet to hear one thing from her that impressed me. She has talent, just not in the amount to justify the almost embarrassing levels of drooling over her you see in the media.

Generally, remakes of anything (songs, movies, TV shows, etc) really annoy me.

Agreed, and then I get annoyed with myself when I hear a cover version that I really like, e.g.

I prefer Phil Collins' versions of Groovy Kind of Love and True Colours over the originals, Billy Idol does a great cover of LA Woman, the Stranglers covering Walk On By, Faith No More doing This Guy's In Love With You.

The reason remakes generally annoy me is they mostly all suck donkey reproductive organs. There are some pleasant exceptions to the rule of course.

The original 'City of New Orleans' by Steve Goodman:

The first remake of 'City of New Orleans' by Arlo Guthrie:

I much prefer AG's version. We named our late cat Arlo after this guy.

^^^ Jesus what a mission it was to get that post to edit correctly. You can't post one youtube link without it wiping out the other one.

Whilst I do really love this site, and spend a lot of time here, the quoting is the bane of my existence (here).

Agreed on GKOL but True Colours I slightly prefer the orignal, though I do love the PC version.

Heres one that might cause some friction (though a remakes thread might be more appropriate place so I'll make this my only one).

Mozilla Firefox update notifications when it's set to ask before downloading and installing - my preferred setting so it doesn't screw up my critical extensions which may not be compatible.

When I click "Ask later" I don't mean again in a few hours or on the next launch. I mean much later. Give me a few days. At least.

Solution: I turn off notifications completely which is less than ideal but still better than being nagged incessantly.

Battery compartments that require not only a screw removed to open them, but the screw to be put back to hold them closed.
