A Shop for Killers on Disney + of all places, A Korean action show with a really good plot . think John Wick sort off, it pays to watch it with no idea of plot or synopsis, i really enjoyed it. 8/10
Common sense is not as common as you think.
Finally all caught up with The Last of Us.
I'm a big fan of the games and personally think the TV show has pretty much nailed the mood of the games. Even though I know the story, the suspense scenes were really good and hearing the infected "speech patterns" (not really sure what word to use here) on surround sound speakers sounds so good!
Not particularly fussed with the artistic liberties they took with story and with all the effort they put into recreating the world probably my only complaint was that Click to see spoiler(s)
it felt like there was a very low effort put into the bloater.
Looking forward to seeing the rest when it's released
Doctor Who (Season "Two" of the 2023 refresh) - 7/10
I've struggled with enjoying much of what has been produced in Doctor Who since things started falling apart in the final season of Matt Smith's run as the Doctor. I was so hyped for Peter Capaldi, only to be let down by poor writing. The same was true of Jodie Whitaker. David Tennant's surprise return before Ncuti Gatwa was fun and I enjoyed those three specials, but I struggled to enjoy Ncuti Gatwa's first season for - you guessed it - poor writing reasons. It really does feel like the whole show has struggled to find anything interesting to inject into the story.
So I was kind of surprised to enjoy Ncuti Gatwa's second season as much as I did. It's still a far cry from the hey-day of The 10th Doctor and Donna, or 11 and the Ponds, but there were some genuinely interesting stories. Not all of them, mind you, but I enjoyed it enough to be able to binge it over a few days - particularly when the Internet started spoiling the end of the final episode.

I enjoyed seeing Jodie Whitaker popping in for a cameo. It didn't excuse the poor stories she was given, but it did remind me how much I enjoyed the spin she gave to the character. And then the Doctor regenerates, and we see... Billie Piper. That was disappointing. It felt like a cheap trick. A bit like when David Tennant popped up at the end of Jodie Whitaker's regeneration, except that this made less sense. Tellingly, the credits didn't list Billie Piper as "The Doctor", so they've left room for something else to happen here. But it feels so blatant - almost like they've admitted they don't know how to recapture the magic of 2005-2011, and so they're rummaging through the sofa looking for some loose change to keep the thing moving. Billie Piper as Rose was fantastic - one of the best companions. But this feels like such a letdown. It sounds like things might be a long hiatus - similar to what happened when Colin Baker's run was tainted by low ratings (and a hostile BBC led by Michael Grade). I'm curious to see how they will resolve this cliffhanger, but I'd really just rather see the creative direction strip things back to something a lot more simple and less self-referential.
Overall, it was fine. Some good episodes, others less so (looking at you, Interstellar Song Competition). But happy to let this whole franchise have a long rest and come back with a new energy.
Gangs of London Season 3 on Neon
A continuation of the story of the Wallaces, Domani's and the other gangs of London and their violent, bloody lives.
Ends with a bang (quite literally) and could be either a setup for a 4th season, or a cliff-hanging terminal ending.
All in all, I enjoyed this, but with a few cast members also showing up in Mobland, it tended to get a little muddle in my mind as to who was who and which mob they were with.
I really should watch less mob-related TV.

I'm also still really enjoying Murderbot on Apple TV+, but find the episodes far too short.
Dunno if you listen to RNZ National but they run a competition where you try to identify a soundbite,
Last week's winner was a chap called Toa Fraser,
Host Jesse Mulligan asked Fraser what new TV shows he was watching, Fraser mentioned Murderbot
Unbeknownst to Mulligan and many listeners this was Toa Fraser film director who directed several episodes.
🤣

Wait. Did the director win something based on work he created? It's not quite clear from your post.

I find it hard to believe that Mulligan/Radio NZ were not in on this..
There are huge media promotional programmes for these TV Shows, "random" things like this are rarely as random as you might think...

No.
The soundbite was of Dave Prowse, Mr Darth Vader.
Fraser pimped Murderbot without saying he worked on the show.
:D

On commercial stations yes but not on RNZ
😄
Late to the party, but I have started watching The Gentlemen on Netflix.
It's hard to separate the movie from the show as they are very much set in the same world with a similar premise, but once you wrap your head around the concept that this is a "The Gentlemen Universe" show and not a remake, it's very entertaining.
It's got a real Guy Ritchie feel to it and it's well acted, produced and filmed.
Just a couple of episodes in so far and I am hooked.

Star Trek: Discovery S5 - 4/10
My partner and I finally got around to finishing this season, after we watched the first episode of the season when it debuted and then forgetting about it for months. That should have been a warning sign.
Overall, it was just disappointing, and a bit of a slog to get through. While the show felt exciting and fresh and very dynamic back in seasons 1-2, it has really slipped off its cracker the last couple of seasons. It's felt more and more like a "star vehicle" for the show's lead, who despite being an engaging character in the early seasons now seems to be quite flat and boring. She seems to have only two expressions - overly gushing, or fierce and determined. But the dominant focus on her character has pushed almost all other characters to the side. Apart from a few of the long-standing cast the bridge crew are all anonymous extras to me. It's a shame, because it used to be really sharp, and now it's as dull as dishwater.
This final season in particular has been dreary to watch. The "treasure hunt" trope felt very tired and the "villains" were so banal and boring. There's no character development, and the plot veers between pointless and incomprehensible. They're trying to locate some incredible piece of technology which is said to bestow the gift of creation, made possible by the "Progenitors". Their motivation - the technology is too powerful to let fall into the "wrong" hands. But at each step of the "treasure hunt" they could have achieved their goal by just destroying the clue/puzzle piece to make it impossible for anyone else to ever solve the puzzle. But they insist on continuing to "solve the puzzle" even though by their own actions they are leading the "bad guys" straight to the tech they shouldn't ever find. Gah! It's so frustrating!
They "solved" the story and then spent about 25 mins in a very self-indulgent and unearned "victory lap" of paying tribute to all the people who were practically nameless in the show. My partner kept asking how much longer, and then sighing as we saw we still had 15 minutes to go while we were forced to sit through a slow-motion, soft-focus wrap party.
But it's done now. Often shows talk about outstaying their welcome. I think Discovery reached that point 1-2 seasons ago.
"Tires" on Netflix. The Mrs loved it, Quirky humor but stupid funny as you get into it. Not for everyone but we loved it.
The finale ep of Ted Lasso S3. What a cracking TV series this is. A masterpeice in my opinion. Finished with my favourite song of all time.
