My main point is why should people be penalized for 5 k's over etc when everyone including police, government officials and the law makers themselves do it.

It was an unmarked car with stock rims light bars etc. I saw them go past and then pulled out behind them. My speedo got up to 57/58 and the gap between us was ever increasing. Regardless you can't tell me of duty officers sit with their speedo bang on 50.00, of course they don't.

I don't hate police I just don't like being ticketed for doing 55 when they themselves don't give a toss. Nobody sticks to 50. You should not get penalized if doing 8 km/h or less over the posted speed limit.

A 3 km/h allowance or whatever they have on public holidays is a load of bollocks. Speedos are not even accurate to that.

Your main point is wrong.

'everyone' gets penalized for breaking the same laws. If Police get caught breaking those laws (eg speeding past a camera) they WILL get fined.
As pointed out previously in this thread, there are exceptions allowing police/fire/ambulance etc to 'break' those rules in an emergency.

If you are happy for emergency services to dawdle through traffic obeying all road rules at the expense of someones loss of life / property / safety, then so be it.
Just make sure you let the call operator know that you dont want them to break any speed limits when you yourself need to call for help.......

Well instead of moaning about it why not do something about it? Make a complaint to the police or the IPCA, otherwise.....

If you think "50" is ridiculous, dont blame the Police, they dont make the law, they simply enforce the laws enacted by the politicians voted in by the public....

Let me put this straight:

Police do not make laws
Police is there to ensure laws are obeyed
Citizens can complain about police to the Independent Police Conduct Authority
Since when are you the police of police to break laws yourself by driving at 58km/hour?

YOU broke the law by speeding behind the (allegedly) police car. Stop worrying about the others and worry about yourself.

I personally have no sympathy for your argument.

A speed limit is the maximum legal speed that you can travel on the road under good conditions. Therefore the limited is as posted in accordance with legislation. 50KMH is exactly that a maximum of 50KMH under good conditions.Not 53, not 55, not 58 it is 50KMH. Same applies with 100KMH posted limit. It is not 105, it is not 110 it s 100KMH under good conditions..

If conditions are poor you can be ticketed travelling at say 100KMH in a 100 KMH zone.

If one is sick of getting speeding tickets the remedy is very very simple, obey the Road Code in its entirety.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Didnt i see on one news the police chief of somewhere declaring "police tolerance will remain at 4 km per hour until 7 jan where it will go back to 10 km per hour. Anyone caught going going above 4 km per hour will be stopped." those were his words .... That doesn t change the law but definitely confuses the OP and many others i'm sure

It still has yet to be proven that the Police officer was not "speeding" in the execution of his/her duty. Going to a job? Maybe speeding up slightly to have a better look at a suspicious car ahead? Maybe trying to move into a suitable position to check if someone in another vehicle had their seat belts on? Maybe seeing how fast they could get the idiot behind them to speed up to so they could give them a ticket? The list is endless...don't pass judgement until all the facts are known IMO

Going fast to see if the guy behind would speed up would be a trap and certainly not qualify as a good reason, like the other ones you listed.

Yep you saw it. The general police tolerance is 10km per hour over the speed limit. Unless of course when its a public holiday, then it reduces to 4km per hour over.

If you do 110km per hour in a 100km zone, you should be ok, but 111km per hour will net you a minimum $80 fine

I agree with the first part of your argument. It just feels sort of crap that I can get done for 55 km/h when police themselves daily while not on duty.

The second part of your comment is stupid since when did I say I wanted police/fire/ambulance to obey the posted speed limit in an emergency situation.
