He has no doubt done us all a favour. I seriously doubt any parole board would want to put their name to his release form now, and the Govt Department of Clowns will want revenge for making them look like noddies.

And it looks like getting him back from Brazil will be easier than expected. His former lawyer suggests that since his passport is cancelled he is now illegally in Brazil. That means they can just deport him rather than deal with extradition issues.

Smith has been jailed awaiting deportation.
He asked for a private cell, but has been forced to share one with common Brazilian criminals.
How degrading smile

To be fair, that's a lot of criminals to cram into one small room.

//George W. Bush jokes; still funny.

For those who dont get a brazillian joke emails each day

Three Brazilian Soldiers

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

Why do we want him back? As a taxpayer, I have no wish to see him again thanks. Let him rot in Brazil.

kiwitrc: So Philip Smith/Traynor legged it out of NZ when he was obviously being considered for release from prison and back into society.

His passport has been cancelled so I assume he can't get back in, or go anywhere else either.

The countries he went to don't have an extradition treaty with us, even better.

Therefore why the hell would the government want to spend probably millions on getting this arsehole back into the country?

Strikes me that corrections might have stumbled onto the perfect solution.

The prefect solution would be for the SAS to find him and quietly 'vanish' him. He will not be missed.

State sponsored murder is NOT a solution.

I would be happy to see the state permanently disabling some high risk criminals by severing the spinal column .

There should be a prison for these prisoners where they are denied external communications, and visitors once they have shown they are not to be trusted.

It IS a solution, it's just one you don't like.

A few weeks in a Brazilian prison might teach him to appreciate NZ prisons - where he will be staying for a very long time ...

I can't help but laugh that he's going to spend a year or more in a Brazilian prison. Those places are NASTY! If he does make it out alive maybe we should drop him in the middle of a favela? He wouldn't make it to the exit alive. Oh karma, you rock!

No, not at all. More so that life is incredibly cheap in the poor parts of Brazil and the criminals are particularly blood thirsty.
