As above RNZ is currently the best one, but Newsroom will launch soon and that looks really promising. I think it will require a paid subscription, but that's necessary because the poor quality of journalism elsewhere is due to Fairfax/NZME/Mediaworks struggling to monetise their product in the digital era.

Not a headline - but this poll:

At first glance I would have assumed the first option would be like giving the show a 1/6, the middle a 3/6 with the last answer ("perfect morning TV") giving the show a 6/6.  But there is no answer for "it was OK" or "it was fine", and answers 3-6 all seem to be similar to me, saying the show was awesome (the 5th option is nearly an oxymoron).  Absolutely worthless poll.

Tomorrow stuff will report that 80% of the people who watched the show thought it was fantastic. Based on the idiots who bothered to click on the above poll.

If the feedback is in favour of the show then they won't publish the results. Media companies in NZ love bagging each other's product.

From HB Today (part of the Herald stable):

"Our sceptic tank, which is actually 10 metres from the house, that's all gone. And then it [the fire] whipped round to the back of the house and started burning there; some grass and some trees."

That tank really needs to change its attitude.

"Hillary Barry and Amanda Gillies Make Another Mistake". A thrilling piece how two news readers on rival networks almost wear the same colour at the same time! - NZ Herald (shabby little tabloid) 14 Feb 2017.

Since when were sceptic tanks flammable?

They are underground concrete containers full of nasty wet stuff.

I'm pretty sure that some of them are made of the same material as plastic water tanks now. It's best not to confuse one with the other. tongue-out

link to article

The Queen has done no such thing as extend an "invitation to the US to join Commonwealth.

Extraordinary Fake News by Stuff - Breitbart published essentially the same story, but even they didn't headline the story with something so implausible.

This is just bizarre. The whole point of the American revolution was to avoid being part of the Commonwealth. I guess the positive side is that if the Queen becomes the American head of state, there will no longer be any need for a president.

p.s.: The source of this appears to be the Telegraph. It is exactly the kind of grovelling Royal backside-kissing empire-nostalgic nonsense that might be expected of this atavistic obsequious rag.

Lake's portal to another dimension

Ok, here's proof that the media thinks we're all as dumb as Homer Simpson.

From the article: "... called a morning glory, plug hole or a glory hole, as the locals refer to it."

I think some editor has been trolled, hard. All these "names" aren't so innocent as they think.

Probably the other way around. It's a mining term originally; and for example:

It has many innocent senses in everyday American speech.
