Why are you mentioning theft of weapons? The buy back was to stop legal owners running amok a la Christchurch, Aramoana etc.

You need to read more than just the last post.  Frankv posited MSSA theft as a reason for the buyback; I was trying to ascertain how much of a risk this was.  I have some knowledge of the storage requirements for MSSAs which cause me to question this as a meaningful risk

He killed 50 innocent people, do you think it would have posed much of an ethical dilemma for him to have sourced an illegal one instead?

All the buyback has achieved is convincing people willing to give up their weapons, to do so. The weapons we need to worry about are the ones which haven't been bought back.

If someone wants to kill 50 innocent people badly enough, there are ways and means.

The cost of this is between $500M and $1.2B. If that money had been spent on education or healthcare what sort of relatively better outcome could we have had?

This thread is clearly for WTF things.

You want to discuss the gun buyback program, go create your topic in the Politics sub-forum.

No that's a plastic surgeon, you'll want the next window along.

(Yes, i know what augmentative actually means, but it's less funny taken that way).

Geektastic:

Here they appear to have all sorts of other stuff (the making recommendations thing for example) that really renders them quasi-political rather than judicial IMV.

And that's why it often takes so long, there can be considerable legal weight attached to a finding.

I rather like the NZ form actually, with a purely clinical "X died from terminal kinetic energy poisoning" it's just an entry in a ledger somewhere, if it's "X died from terminal kinetic energy poisoning brought about by ..." then if the "..." is bad enough or happens frequently enough, someone is forced to do something about it.

2. Animals killed in slaughterhouses are dead before they hit the ground, if that is your criterion.

They are usually stunned electrically, which is very quick/humane.  They are then killed soon after with a captive bolt gun, which could be powered by a rifle cartridge or compressed air.  That may be totally different for halal.  I've never worked on halal line.

The journey from farm to abattoir has a negative impact of meat quality.  The taste and tenderness difference between home-kill and commercial beef is dramatic.  Home kill is way better.  That's because the animal was contentedly munching on some hay, cow nuts or mooseli when a bullet passed through its brain, killing it instantly.  Zero adrenaline/cortisol elevation.

Even more so for wild/home kill vs commercial venison.

On a doc I watched, it was done with injection of fat, so probably more squishy than hard.

I'm at work so I'm not googling to double check.

Why are movie box office records measured in $$$$$$?  Unless we get huge deflation the price of tickets is always going to keep going up and the record will be broken again.  They should base it on tickets sold.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Like the singles charts ticket sales metric creates all kinds of ways to boost the numbers. Success is measured in $$$ I guess. Btw, very few box offices are standing ; ). Good question business related reasons I reckon.

No, it's a method of modifying a pipe organ - which is a coincidental pun with the other augmentation raised here.
