Bluenose Fillets $32 a KG last time I ordered them (6 months ago) and are now $50 a KG!

Inflation at 7% my left nostril.

Hope you didn’t reward them by paying that.

Nope, I won't be.

Bottom line is, there isn't one thing (That I can recall)  I have bought in the past 2 months that is *only* 7% more expensive than it was 6-12 months ago.

Our last few grocery shops have been well over twice that.

The government made much of the $350 it decided to pay to eligible voters in the budget to help with the cost of living.

I happened to be looking at the IRD website and noticed that the first payment date (the $350 is split into thirds) is August. 4 months after the assistance was announced,,,

Inflation will probably reduce its value by then…

I saw this article recently on interest.co.nz. Thought it was interesting - talks about the effect of the payment on IR staff levels, timing of the payment, 2022 tax returns and so on.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Someone gets stabbed and the person who did it has his name, for three days, on the TV3 news. He is arrested but can't be named on TV3 news...

But his name, after he is arrested, is given on Radio NZ news.

Errr...??

Yes. The alleged killer was plastered all over the news in every format for days. Then all of a sudden was given interim name suppression for his health.

Personally, I think the genie is out of the bottle and it's ridiculous that the name suppression has been granted.

Yes and not terribly surprised.

Many moons ago I worked for a company in the U.K. with about 5000 employees. They introduced a company wide bonus scheme that paid about £350 if a wide variety of KPIs were met.

As it was a water and sewerage company most of the KPIs were things like not failing water quality tests, not having pollution incidents, fixing burst pipes within agreed timescales, answering customer calls within x seconds and so on. None of which my department had any control over at all…..!

One of the directors visited us and was bigging up the bonus. After pointing out the myriad of things affecting it that we couldn’t control, a colleague said

“Anyway, by the time you take Tax off it it’s about what my wife spends in a week in Tesco. I’d rather go home early and see the kids then work extra long days just to get such a small amount of money: the time is worth more to me.”

I recall the director being surprised his plan wasn’t universally adored.

Maybe you can confirm this story then: When I liven in the UK it was announced one of these privatised water companies was given a government KPI - reduce water leaks by 10%

The water company met this ............ by turning the water pressure down 10%.

Very likely a true story. It doesn't make sense to have pressure well in excess of minimum standards.

Anglican Water ‐ "What is water pressure management?

It's making sure the water pressure in the pipes is suitable for everyday use and not at a level that causes a leak or burst. Since 2010, we've invested over £3 million to improve water pressure management and as a result, we’ve reduced the number of burst water mains by 80% and smaller leaks by 40%."

Or just the absolute minimum time it takes to turn a politician's sudden brain fart into something that has at least a 50% chance of not turning into a complete screw-up when it comes time to make the payment.

The true Wiskey Tango Foxtrot at the Mona Lisa is the tourist horde waving mobile phone cameras at it. The bullet proof glass apparently weighs over 600kg so elderly female impersonators would have no chance of damaging it.
