Pretty big premium for posh seats. You (probably) could, and I would, buy the 4K disc for that. You don't get the cinema experience at home though, though the cynic in me saying thats the experience of getting to the cinema in the rain, queueing, crushing popcorn as you squeeze to your seat, people squeezing past you to their seat, listening to other people eat popcorn, play on their phones and of course being deafened for 2+ hours. Did I miss anything out ?

Well, there is obviously a demand for it, except Covid.

The thing is, cinema seats used to be awful, so paying for a comfortable reclining seat was worthwhile as a treat, esp since you could have food delivered to your seat as well, but they are blurring the lines somewhat these days, which I can't blame them for, as any money is better than none.

The few times I have been in a cinema since Covid, I may have been, at most, one of 10 people in the room. One sitting I was the only, and one was quite a lot more full.

It's gotta be pretty tough running a movie theatre these days. Or any form of hospo, though I was at a nice restaurant on Saturday evening and by the time I left, they were almost full, so things are turning around a bit.

Matrix Resurrections.

Started slow and boring, but improved with age. It's time to put the story down

5/10 after a a while, 7/10, just, as it unfolded

The Courier - 8/10 - NEON

Businessman Greville Wynne is asked by MI5 & CIA to liaise with a Russian source to try to help put an end to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

This Docudrama, based on fact, is excellent. Benedict Cumberbatch is superb as the naive businessman. Very gripping and tense. The 1960's sets, props, costumes etc can not be faulted.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

It's also on Prime Video. Agree with the 8/10. A worthy watch.

I took my wife to see The Lost City at the movies last night.

We had cheap tickets available, so the whole experience cost us more for icecreams and drinks than it did for the movie.

I actually quite enjoyed it. I wasn't expecting cinematic and cerebral excellence. I got what I paid for. A modern take on Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile.

Some unexpected twists. Some laughs. Some good action sequences. Some silly stuff and a lot of "take out your brain" moments.

7/10 purely on entertainment value.

Everything Everywhere All At Once
10/10

Brilliant cast, crew, story, production, score. The best movie I've seen in a long time. Something different in a time where one studio is making most of the action and sci-fi stuff.

Worth seeing with an audience.

Two most recent movies watched

The Batman 5 out pf 10..Can't say I overly enjoyed this movie and have no idea how anyone could believe this was quite possibly the best Batman movie.  It was long and not that interesting. I would say I probably only finished it in the hope of seeing something better coming up.  It looked nice and possibly the city was the best part of the movie.  As for Rp his Batman scenes weren't too bad but the look of him as Bruce Wayne was not good. Sadly when my boy visit i'll probably have to watch it again.

Moonfall 6 out of 10...I enjoyed this more than The Batman by far of course that does not equate to it being a great movie.  As far as disaster movies goes it is pretty good though.  A little different in that as the title suggests the moon is falling which you'll need to watch to find out why. The visuals are very good and if disaster movies are your thing you should enjoy this....check your brain at the door obviously.

Also not playing in either of the theatres where I live (Palmerston North), but it appears to be screening in Wanganui.

Frustrating, as this is the first movie in a while that I've actually wanted to see in the theatre...

I really don't understand how this is not on wide release. It is going to be cult classic. Really happy I went out a saw it (If in Chch, silky otter in wigram seems to one of the only ones showing it).

For the type of people here, definitely make the effort to see it, really hard to explain but would have loved to see it in a full theater as there are quite a few LOL moments (or What the hell moments, still not sure which 🤣)

Prisoners - 7.5/10 DVD

An early effort from Denis Villeneuve and a pretty good one too. Stars Hugh Jackman and Jake Gyllenhall in a thriller about the abduction and search for two young girls in Pennsylvania.

As usual with Villeneuve plenty of atmosphere and both the stars put in excellent performances.

Worth a watch.

I am Mother . netflix

8/10
Human raised by robots . You never quite know what the ~truth~ of the backstory actually is , untill the very end .
Gets a bit hollywood towards the very end , but a ending that adds some questions .
