The Killer Netflix. I must admit i am a David Fincher fan and i enjoyed the film. The 2 hours flew by . it is a very simple film and its plot has been done to death over the years but if you have a great director it just works. 8/10

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets - BluRay UHD - 8/10

An average storyline and fairly wooden acting but Luc Besson's movie in 4K is a feast for the eyeballs that keeps you enthralled when otherwise you might have wandered off to make a cup of tea.

Have turned Friday evening into movie night with the kids and we put a classic 80s/90s/00s movie on. My choice and I put "Honey I shrunk the kids" on. Funny, quite dated, but kept us all entertained. I really like how they can tell a great story in an hour and a half without stretching out 2 plus hours.

Highlight was my son (6) asking what the box on the wall with the wire coming out was. It was a telephone.

Might try ghost busters next. Tried Jumanji but the start with the bats was to scary.

I do something similar with my two kids (9 and 6) on Saturdays. I've shown them Back to the Future (1 and 2, they're begging for the third) Short Circuit, Flight of the Navigator. They've loved all the 80s movies I've shown them, and it's nice to take a break from the Disney+ roundabout sometimes...

We have also been doing some family movie nights from the 80s/90s. Started with Dirty Dancing and Lost Boys. Then the last two weeks Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of Wonderful. Lining up Ferris Bueller's Day Off next and then might try out Risky Business, Notting Hill and Pretty Woman after that.

My family are enjoying them so far. Some parts are very awkward and have not dated well but mostly lots of laughs, cool music and fun to revisit.

I also took my daughter who is into music to the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense concert movie which has played at cinemas for its 40th anniversary. It was great and she also thought it was great. I had this on a VCR tape and hoped it would still be good. The close-up view was a nice change from watching bands at a large stadium, picture and sound quality was also very good and has held up very well with a 4k restoration. I went to the David Byrne concert when he was here and that was excellent. Such an amazing talent.

Hell Or High Water - DVD - 7.5/10

Chris Pine and Jeff Bridges star in a pretty watchable bank robbery movie with two brothers, one of them Pine, robbing banks to pay off the farm mortgage in rural Texas while Jeff Bridges hunts them down.

Bridges has some humorous one-liners although the film itself is serious.

Tron: Legacy (2010) •1080p Blu-ray Disc • Movie 7/10 • Video 10/10 • Audio 10/10

The son of a virtual world designer goes looking for his father and ends up inside the digital world that his father designed. He meets his father's corrupted creation and a unique ally who was born inside the digital world.

I bought this Blu-ray package when I was dabbling with 3D. The film had an IMAX 3D release as well as a theatrical 2D release. I don't have the hardware to watch 3D anymore, so I "made do" with watching the 2D disc. I have to say that the video presentation is probably as good as it gets for Blu-ray disc. Coupled with an amazing DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track; Home Cinema heaven 😁 The actual film is decent, but not everyone's cup of tea. Its the mixed aspect ratio (2.35:1/1.78:1) A/V experience that makes this film worth the time. Its obvious in many scenes that the film was made for 3D. I know its a long shot, but I can only imagine what could be done if Disney ever decide to release this in 4K Ultra HD.

We watched The Mother on Netflix the other night.
J Lo stars as a former sniper turned criminal turned FBI informant?

She does some shooting and some fighting and some grunting and a bit of acting. It’s OK.

6/10. Above average but not amazing.

Spirited (on Apple TV)

I'm not usually a Christmas movie type and it's a little early but somehow this caught my attention.

A modern retelling of A Christmas Carol with some nice twists. Some good jokes.

It is a musical and generally the songs are ok - Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds do their best I guess.

Overall I liked it (surprised me) but at just over two hours it's far too long for this type of movie. Needs to cut out 20-30 minutes.

I finally got around to John Wick 4

I have to be honest, Im a huge fan of the series, however I feel they slowly drifted backward.

I was more interested in John Wick the character than I was the "Hotel" plot. Dont get me wrong its an interesting fictional Plot and the array of men/women for hire was very cool. along with some of the best run n gun martial arts scenes ever seen in a movie, it is non stop action once it kicks off.

Its a connundrum faced by many successful franchises ie Rambo, Fast and the Furious. Rambo for me got it right because it focusses on he character strongly, the Plot doesnt become the focus of the movie.

I feel with JW they had the opportunity to focus on the character more, but chose the Plot more and more as the focus of 3 and 4. This left me feeling a bit empty, wanting more about who is JW, how does JW think, where did he learn all his skils etc.

Good 7/10

While it's by no means a scary movie by adult standards, there's a few things in Ghostbusters that might be a bit scary for a 6 year old. The things I remembers as finding a bit scary when I was a kid:

Library ghost
Arms coming out of Dana's chair
Corpse taxi driver

I never found the terror dogs scary (I thought they were cool), but some children might.

But the scariest part as an adult is contemplating why Peter Venkman took enough Thorazine on his date to knock Dana out. He wasn't expecting her to be possessed so...
