Saving Private Ryan - Blu-Ray UHD - 9/10

As usual UHD/HDR does its thing and a memorable movie becomes even more memorable. The action scenes are stunning and the DTS-HD audio makes you think you are in danger of getting shot or blown up.

One slight drawback of such stunning picture quality is that a youngish Matt Damon's A-lister teeth shine out like a beacon. He actually seems miscast anyway in the title role. Too squeeky clean.

Saltburn - 8/10

Not for kids :)

Really dark thriller/drama with a bit of comedy. Wasn't quite what we thought it was going to be, but really enjoyed it in the end.

Saw the new Wonka movie and was actually impressed. It was a lot better than I expected based on the trailer. 7/10.

Interestingly, the theatre was filled with basically adults but maybe that was because it was the 8pm showing.

Just watched it. Thought it was a bit long.

Watched Saltburn last night too. Really enjoyed it for what it was. But yeah did seem a bit over long.

In Memoriam 2023 for behind and in front of the Small Screen, Big Screen, Stage & Microphone. You all brought us joy and happiness throughout your entertainment years. 🙇‍♂️ 👏

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The Family Plan

Very average movie based on a well used trope (father/partner was a former hitman/assassin. Now settled and has his old employers after him). The road trip with his family oblivious was a nice touch but the rest was meh.

Wasn't sure if they were toning it down in the first few action scenes as no one seemed to get killed (ala A Team style) but then part way through the action button gets turned up and people get shot, thrown off heights and more swearing.

Nobody did it better

I like to think of this as a spiritual sequel to The Big Hit where Mark Wahlberg played a hitman wanting to get out of the business.

I like Mark Wahlberg and for some reason seem to watch most of his movies but this started a debate about whether he's done anything that's actually good as he's done a lot of stinkers (Infinite comes to mind). We did agree he's been in some very good movies but most of those are from a while back (The Departed, Ted, Boogie Nights, The Italian Job). Nothing recent comes to mind.

Titanic - Blu-Ray UHD - 9/10

A timeless story enhanced by technology to the point I was concerned I might drown. Spectacular.

The Creator on Disney Plus

Visually it's pretty cool, really cool actually.

The cast is ok - Ken Watanabe is always good. The kid was well acted too.

Plot and execution is poor. Disappointed as had a lot of potential.

Alita: Battle Angel did it better (although a bit more cartoony)

Watched Rebel Moon with a mate earlier in the week and have absolutely no memory of any of it now. Other than it was not good.

Leave the world behind. 7.8/10

I really enjoyed it. The creepy girl ruined it somewhat for me.

Feeling tired to today, that'll learn me for starting a movie really late and then being unable to stop watching it.

The Founder - 10/10 the movie about how mcdonalds started in the USA... this is based on a true story.

One of the best movies i have ever seen, reminds me a little bit on a Wolf of the Wallstreet movie.

I think that movie is helped a lot by Keaton being in it.
