Speaking to a courier from a distance the other day, he wasn't very happy at all and I can understand why.. He looked so stressed, and tired. He is working 7 days a week well over his usual number of hours. He is collecting the parcels in the day time and then arrives with them to a business, which is closed, then has to return them to the depot, which then stores them, and the depots are all heaving at the seams. On top of that people are always grumpy and pissy with him, and his bosses are all grumpy and stressed.

He is at breaking point.

I'd suggest both sides of the picture aren't looking that great right now.

I did my best to provide him with some positivity and encouragement.

I have to say - as a retailer, the number of customers who order something and then immediately phone or email to ask about the courier is incredibly frustrating. These are also the same people who complain about waiting on hold for 30 mins. Yes well maybe if you weren't all ringing the moment you place an order or the moment your parcel gets picked up to ask when it will be delivered, there wouldn't be a long wait.

Like not to be rude - but is it really that hard to understand couriers are smashed so there are delays, and is it really that hard to understand that once a courier has it there's not much more we can do? Like retailers don't see anything you can't already see in the tracking, and we don't have a magical button that says "deliver Karen's order right now because it's much more important than every other parcel the couriers have".

I get it's frustrating waiting - refer my earlier post in this thread - but I would never think to ring up my supplier and get my whinge on when I know it's with the courier and they're doing their best. "Be Kind" didn't last long with the team of 5 million online shoppers that's for sure.

Update:  My parcel sent from Mt Wellington to St Heliers on 28 last month.  On enquiry, NZPost says

Interesting because it is from a no-reply address!  I guess they really don't want to know.

10 what days, anyway?  Working days?  Arrgh.

Last night, at >7pm our local courier post driver delivered this game to me, which had a 3-5 day delivery timeframe on it, and it turned up after being sent from Rosedale in Auckland. I was pretty impressed and extremely happy.

I bought some command strips from the warehouse on the weekend. They showed up on without a shipping notification from NZ Post, was still delivered overnight (Botany -> CBD) which I was very surprised. I was not expecting them for at least 1 week AFTER shipping.

I work for a retailer, and am helping out with queries from online customers.

Sooo many - after less than a day are sending emails looking for their items. Generally we get things labelled and waiting for the courier within 24 hours (usually same day). They get a tracking link sent once the courier collects it - the link states there will be delays. Still they email.

Then we get them again that we've Ruined a birthday/Cost them money as they had someone coming to install it/caused WWIII because the courier hasn't delivered it. It's like what do you want us to do, go to Highbrook, find your parcel amongst the 100's of 1000's there and hop on a plane/chopper/train/magic carpet and bring it to you??

Posted an item last Thursday morning, Greytown to Auckland. Friday morning it showed up on the NZ Post tracking system as being "collected from sender" with a little arrow pointing to the supermarket.

This morning, 8 days later, it is apparently still "collected from sender" and hasn't left Greytown. Home made biscuits for my SO might not be quite so enjoyable if/when she does get them...

I just received a parcel from KMart. Tracking still only showing that a tracking number has been allocated. No pick up, no delivery.

Whilst I'm happy I've got it, it opens the sender up to a lot of potential claims. If there's no proof the courier ever collected it (in other words, the courier didn't scan it into their van), they'd have to supply another one or refund the customer. It's happened to us.

I ordered an item from The Market Monday evening, Courier Post picked it up Tuesday in Albany and it arrived at our place in Te Awakairangi  Thursday morning. Given the circumstances that was awesome service. Kudos to The Market and Courier Post.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Ordered three things on Monday, one from Amazon, one from an Auckland company who's regarded as vital and so operates normally during the lockdown, and one from Nelson. Expedited shipping from Amazon was just under ten dollars more so I thought I'd give it a go just to see what difference it made and, since it was some test equipment that was needed for further work was nominally justifiable.

So three shipments left (a) Portland / Oregon / USA, (b) Manukau / Auckland, and (c) Nelson / South Island at about the same time. I'm sure this is an "I can see where this is going", but can you guess what's turned up so far?
