I would have thought that would depend on what particular calling plan you have, but I guess a lot of elderly people are getting ripped off by their telcos because they don't understand how to select a telco and calling plan that gives them best value.

The elderly do understand this stuff

i would argue that some may but the majority dont.

I didn't know this thread was still going but check the Chorus Quarterly Update as all the numbers are in there.

Total broadband connections 1,197,000 1,186,000

So 1.4Mil PSTN connections, and 1.2Mil Broadband of various flavors of which only 149k are Naked.

So as I said before... Millions of PSTN connections, more than people with Broadband connections.

Those stats dont show how many people use landlines, just have them connected.

I know for ages when I had a landline because you couldnt get the slingshot unlimited plan naked, it never had a call made on it. It may have recieved calls but I did not have anything plugged into it, and had no DSL filter to plug a phone in if I wanted to even. Other person I know have one in the flat that noone uses, but someones parents insisted on them having a phone so are paying for it.

You would be surprised, after all the older generation made all this stuff we play with. My In laws are in the late 80's and understand it very well as did my parents when they were with us.

I know so many old people paying well over the rates they should by keeping their landline on spark at the normal rates. Could save a crapload by changing telco but they wont do it because spark is telecom who is the post office and they have misplaced loyalty to an extinct brand.
