I had a package sent to Youshop that arrived last Friday. It was a holiday on Monday but as of today still no notification.

Given the confusion Youshop had over their new address etc. I hope it's gone to the right place. Certainly UPS indicated it was delivered but to where who knows!

I have only used the service a couple of times and usually their notifications are pretty quick.

Had some parcels delivered on the 30th (31st here) and only received notification at 9pm last night (normally all notification is around 2pm).

Likewise, give it time

It would be interesting to know what sort of volume they are processing.

I found out my package arrived Tuesday morning (US time) and I have no notification yet.  When I called Youshop they said there are many packages arriving and it takes time to process. By process I would imagine, working out who's the package for, assessing the cost of shipping to NZ and then entering the data into the system.

I guess to assuage the impatience of many of us a two phase notification might be useful. 1. package has arrived and is in processing. That would not take long to do. 2. Package is processed and this is how much you owe.

Two phase means two touches of the package though, which could increase staffing costs and therefore prices.

freitasm: It's ok to buy a laptop from Ascent and have it shipped by NZ Post CourierPost, but try going to a NZ Post branch to send a laptop to anyone via the same NZ Post CourierPost service and see if you can get past the agent...

Ive sent a mobile phone via courier at the post shop before. They did ask me if the battery was taken out of the phone first though

I had some fun and games with Youshop. I had a package sent UPS which arrived on Tuesday (their time). I heard nothing from Youshop so I called them this morning. They asked for the UPS tracking number and located the package. It was marked as destination unknown!  But when I look at the shipping information provided by the online vendor, it shows my suite # in the address line but not in the name. I would thought that if the suite number appears anyway, Youshop can work out who the package belongs to.

Anyway they appeared to have used the UPS tracking number as another key which is good and hopefully soon I will receive the shipping and payment information.

I've had no issues with YouShop US - mainly using amazon.com and am quite happy with that service. Trying to use the UK one at the moment but to be honest I can't really see the point due to VAT.

In the UK VAT is not charged if the seller arranges the shipping and the destination is outside of the EC.

Because Youshop uses an UK address and they are likely VAT registered, we have to pay VAT. In my case I thought I could save money because the vendor was going to charge quite a bit for direct shipping via fedex, but in my case by the time I pad paid VAT, Shipping and some bank fees it turned out to not be any better.

I think they might need to come up with a different strategy or get a tax exempt status (we just supply the exemption code to the vendor at purchase).

Maybe they should move their location to the Isle of Wight?

Hey guys,

Quick question.

So the Nexus 5 is coming out soon and I really want to get it from Play store instead of buying it from NZ.

I bought my current GNex a few months ago for $500 which is a ripoff but was the only one I could find at that price (NZ parallel import phone shop.)

My question is:

What do you guys use to access the playstore and the amazon shop ?

What kind of VPN ? and how to install it ?

I take it that with Google play it's tricky because it checks where your gmail account is when it was created ?

I bought an app from Play store for my phone a few weeks ago and paid using CC so I think my addie is set to NZ :(

I kinda need a step by step proven guide on this.

All I know so far for the tools to use:

1. Youshop (forwarding + shipping to nz)

2. VPN (don't know which one or how to install/use)

3. Fake credit card billing address

Btw, I know that the NZ customs threshold is the price of product (in NZD) + shipping cost youshop (in NZD) ....
So if the Nex5 cost USD$350 or more , I'll get taxed then ?

TunnelBear - it's really easy to use. VPN seems only required for the first time buying from play store. Amazon doesn't care about your IP.

I had no problem linking my ANZ visa to my G wallet to my Gmail. For billing address the youshop address worked for me - remove the suite number from name. The suite number is a MUST in the name for delivery address though.

More like USD$300 ish include postage to youshop. Assuming postage $23, you need to have the amount under (400-23)*0.8 (estimate of today's cc rate), roghly US$302

You mean leave the "suite number" from the provided youshop address when entering the billing CC address at Play store?

And US$302 ? my goodness lol , doesn't look like the NX5 will cost that little.

I forgot how much did the NX4 retail for at the playstore, if anyone can chime in

Thanks for the vpn suggestion! Will give it a try.

Yes otherwise the name won't match with your credit card.

I had ANZ calling me to confirm the purchase was legit, but the purchase was cancelled before hand possibly because of that. After I removed the suite number and tried again, it went through. Now I get access to Play store - devices without using VPN.

N4 8 GB started at $299, 16 GB $349 (which dropped to $249 before sold out not long ago)
