Seeing how the US authorities strips constitutional rights from non-citizens, I wonder how the Prince could plead the Fifth.

Multiple court cases have stated non-citizens are protected by the Constitution. Some authorities don't understand this.

Everyday I drive into work I see jerks.

On a crowded highway, I saw a little girl of about 8 standing behind the front seats, holding onto headrests, chatting to her parents. Of course the car had a "baby on board" placard on the back window.

I'll see if I can get the license from my dashcam, and fob them in.

In another incident, a long line of traffic was stopped at a traffic light. A car was attempting to take a right out of gas station. From this station, taking a left wasn't an easy option as it would enter a highway.

So a van in line leaves about two car lengths open so the gas station driver can turn. The van was NOT trying to pull into the station; he had no signal on.

Without even waiting a few seconds, the car behind uses the flush median (see image) to do a quick pass, and jump in the space. Not only was it a jerk move, he could have easily been hit by the car pulling out of the gas station.

I'm looking for a work-at-home IT position and I applied for a position with a financial/tech company.

I got this actual email from a Sydney recruiter It had 27 style changes, font, highlights, italics, bold, plus 2 emojis.

It ended with a giant "hang in there" image

In any case, this is an auto email, sent by a mindless bot but it’s not the usual blah blah, so listen up Applicant!

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM US?

1. We will commit to ensuring a real person, not an automated bot, *reviews your application with cautious optimism or maybe reckless pessimism.

*disclaimer: only after getting some sleep and sipping on my 7:53am coffee, will I start the 'hustle' and call people. That’s normally after 8:17am.

2. Under no circumstances will we reject your application because you lack 3 years’ experience in ‘that shiny new tech’ invented only last month OR because you don’t have ‘local’ experience (absolute rubbish that last one, that really ‘grinds my gears’ grrr).

3. Next - yes, you will hear back from us. We endeavour to reply to all applications, even if we send the dreaded “it’s not you, it’s us'' email. We will let you know if we're not taking you forward as soon as possible so you can focus your energies on the companies that deserve you.

We will tell you why we’re rejecting (on behalf of clients) so you can focus your energies on the companies that deserve you.

RECRUITERS NOT GETTING BACK TO YOU?

Recruiters can only present your CV to a hiring manager if you match the brief (otherwise they won’t have any clients).

The good news is, some hiring managers look beyond pure technical skills matching. There are lots of exceptions so, if on this occasion this applies to you, go the 'extra mile' and *challenge us or the hiring manager.

If you don’t have most of the required skills advertised YET you bring ‘other skills to the table’ &/or YOUR motivations / drivers align to the company vision / deliverables, that might just be ok as clients have some pretty unrealistic wish lists these days.

Remember, we want you to get the job! If not this one, then the next one and so on OR just simply adding some value to your job hunting approach (its no picnic, we know).

*HELP US HELP YOU...Now, this bit is really important:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us what;

- Caught your eye about this role &/or

- What is your current job NOT giving you that what you want your next job to offer? (Perm roles only).

Examples below (use red so it catches our eye too):

eg 1 - I'd like to do X because of Y etc. Come on you can do better than that, show us some personality, get creative.

eg 2 - Jane, did you create this ad after reading my CV...seriously, you've described ME to a tee! Okay okay I haven’t used Angular v2 but I've worked with v1.4 extensively having delivered 17 mid sized projects.

The ad mentions 'attitude over skills' (music to my ears).. my attitude got me promoted just last year! STILL THE PESSIMIST Jane? Check out my last performance review (attached).

TIP: the more info you provide the recruiter / hiring manager, the quicker you'll get a response even if it is a rejection. If you don't want your application to fall into the ATS 'black hole', do something about it!

If you sent your CV in PDF format, please reply to this email and attach an MS word version (if possible).

I look forward to hearing back from you and a subsequent chat about your preferences. After sipping my morning coffee of course 😉

That's about 8:17am daily. *Remember?

*If you don't want to speak with me at / after 8:17am, keep your mobile on ‘silent mode’ ;-(

I think this is some kind of new trend. I haven't been applying for any jobs but I have started getting notifications from my VPN provider in the same kind of trendy adolescent 'hip' language from the 'aren't we so cool?' high school crowd. I notice that 2 degrees commercials are also doing it. I hope to god this doesn't spread.

I blame AirNZ...they started it with their safety videos.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Sure, but businesspeople who want to be taken seriously shouldn't talk like pre-pubescent adolescents.

Some are near that age reference the enterprising young lad in the South Island and his landscaping business that he is getting bullied over. One does not need to be prepubescent to use new language, the joy of freedom.

OTOH, my SO comes home with business-speak jargon (from others) that blows my mind.
The personnel department, oops human resources department - has been renamed "people and wellbeing" presumably a doublespeak method to create an illusion that they actually give a %^$ when nothing has fundamentally changed, individual role get given portmanteau titles, reports get written full of unbelievably verbose and difficult to decipher jargon that should have been summed up in a few words:

"People and Wellbeing have responded to the feedback loop identified by the Chief Exacerbator's Tiger Teams.  This identified the need to move the needle by empowerment and incentivation of affected staff to stay in their swim lanes and drill down to avoid a burning platform, to best fulfil the demands of the scaleable ecosystem within the constraints of maintaining best practice and adherence to our core values."

Yup. George Orwell would be proud.

Latest thing I've noticed is that suddenly we have a bunch of "Partners" of various kinds, as if there's some kind of equality in the relationship. And a bunch of "Architects" doing work that was traditionally done by Analysts. "Analyst" has of course lost its perceived value, now that even the call centre log and flog guy is a "Customer Services Analyst". But wait, in lieu of a pay rise, we're now apparently "System Specialists" (although our job descriptions emphasize generalism).

At least your architects do "work".  Ours (none of whom have ever designed plans for a structure) seem to sit in their ivory tower playing with shiny toys, making random dictations as to how the rest of us should do things but not actually understanding what it is that we do.

I have always cringed at "area account manager" ... you mean "rep"?
